Re: Question-how to solder several 18 g wires into small holes
May not be the best solution, but you could use a small piece of appropriate guage solid wire to form a loop. Solder the loop the the fuse holder and the other wires to the loop. You could use a trimmed lead from a cap or something. This is exactly what I thought about doing with a piece of 18 g so...

Re: Question-how to solder several 18 g wires into small holes
Thanks I should have mentioned that I was trying to NOT use terminal strips. I know I can use them as a last resort but but it always seems like a kludgy fix especially in this case where the wires have to do with AC coming into the amp. I have a Mojotone JTM 45 kit that I'm putting together that ne...

Question-how to solder several 18 g wires into small holes
I'm talking specifically about soldering the several 18 gauge wires from power transformers that typically need to be soldered into the small holes on fuse holders and power switches. It seems every amp needs to have multiple 18 gauge stranded wires soldered into these holes. The holes will accommod...

Re: Any Allan Holdsworth fans?
Huge Holdsworth fan here. I've seen him a bunch of times over the years and have all of his recordings and tons of live boots. There is a Holdsworth forum for anyone that's interested http://www.holdsy.com/viewforum.php?f=1. There is a fellow there named Chip who knows Allan pretty well and always s...

Re: Will and effects loop help with signal loss?
Some pedals should go in front of the amp and some in the effects loop. I put anything like a wah wah, filter, compressor, gain, boost, distortion, overdrive etc directly into the front of the amp. I use a buffer in this part of the signal chain too usually a MXR 410 (?) boost/line driver. Time base...

I'm very interested in jumping in on this but didn't recall a ballpark price.
Any idea what that will be?
Thanks!

Re: AC "convenience" jack...where can I get one
Structo posted some good info. Mark, yes thanks I saw that. In the picture it's wired to the AC outlet first then to the fuse, I was wondering if it should go to the fuse first then back to the outlet since black should go straight to the fuse. Wired this way it seems to me that if the amp fuse blo...

Re: AC "convenience" jack...where can I get one
OK so now that I have a grounded AC convenience outlet what's the best way to wire it in based on modern practices since back when Fender was doing it they used the ground switch and death cap, etc? This is for a Princeton build of mine so it's a Fender topology. Isn't the best way to wire AC into t...

Re: The Eagle Supre - Big SE Amp
I don't think anybody got these to be totally hum free but I think everybody is well into the the "usable" category. I am not overly familiar with Single Ended amps so no doubt there is still some I can learn and apply, although we did have some great TAG help as we went on these projects. Xiatan i...

Re: The Eagle Supre - Big SE Amp
OK it took me long enough but I finally finished my Eagle earlier tonight, it fired up the first time! I kept having things get in the way of finishing the build so I'm glad to finally see it through. With all knobs turned down there is a bit of low hum coming through the speaker, more than I think ...

Re: The Eagle Supre - Big SE Amp
Ed, The primary source I use for buying modern components is Mouser. If you want to get really fancy you could use a big rheostat or maybe a rotary switch with several options. I think most SE Fenders use a 470 ohm resistor but I know from experience you can get by with less resistance in the Eagle...

Re: The Eagle Supre - Big SE Amp
Eventually you want to tweak that amp for the specific tube you are using. Since this is a self biasing amp you have a lot of leeway in tube choices without having to rebias... sooner or later you want to optimize but for testing you can try it. For something like a 6K6gt it might red plate but for...
