Re: Effect Pedal building

Wow, I missed this thread. I've been doing a bunch of pedals and pedal related building lately. I just started doing my own boards. I find the positive presensitized boards the best. As far as getting the image on the board, this works great with either a laser or inkjet printer. I've been getting s...

Re: Compressor? Yea or Nay?

So no CA3080 help from anyone? I don't have any laying around and didn't want to wait 2-3 weeks for some to arrive from China.. If these are what you want, I get stuff from here all the time. He usually get's stuff sent out in 2 to 3 days and will use USPS so shipping should be about $5. In fact I ...

Re: Compressor? Yea or Nay?

Here's a little write-up about the two. I don't know if it will answer all the questions, but it's worth reading. http://www.geofex.com/PCB_layouts/Layouts/d&rpub.pdf And you're right getting the trimmer just right makes all the difference. When I first built mine I didn't put anything on the trimme...

Re: Heat Shrink

There's little reason for all the cable ties - just makes repairs that much more onerous. All the sharp right angles in the wire are unnecessary as well - and lead to earlier failure. It may look cool but it's not the best way to go. I'm not looking to get into a big debate or say you're absolutely...

Re: Compressor? Yea or Nay?

Compressor Yae! Especially the Orange Squeezer. It doesn't have a bunch of knobs, but it's perfect for guitar. I have a clone with a 3-way swtich for different attack levels. Like the BYOC Armstrong Twin. If you want that Hey Nineteen, Sultans Of Swing sound, it's the ticket. Another compressor I re...

Re: Heat Shrink

Is this worth doing? No value added - it makes me think that the builder doesn't know what he's doing or why he's doing it. Looking at the rest of the lead dress of that amp sure doesn't make me think the builder "didn't know what he was doing". Would I go to all that extra work, just for show? NO!...

Re: Introducting Myself

Welcome! Like Tom said, this is the right place for info on Dumbles. I can honestly say 1 1/2 years ago I barely knew what a Dumble was. Now I got to sleep with all things "HAD" rolling around in my head. :? Also, that guitar from the other thread really needs to be plugged into a D-style amp. :wink...

Re: Advice on setting up HRM

As far as the Klein goes . it seems a pretty subtle change to the amp to be honest - but maybe there is a bit more sparkle with the buffered loop in the circuit - but maybe placebo though too.... Would be interested to know if others have tried the Jfet buffered loop in their D-style amps, and thou...

Re: Ceriatone SSS Clips

I had never heard those clips that Max just posted. All I can say is they sound absolutely awesome!

I've never played any SSS so I can't say what is authentic and what isn't, but Nik's SSS sounds like a winner to me. Better clips with some nice single coils is needed for sure.

Re: Charge Pump Power Supply

The resistor and pot are both part of the circuit for the adjustable regulator (a LM317L or similar) if you didn't want any adjustability then a 78L09 is sufficient. Some feel (and it's true) that using a LM317L regardless is a better solution because they are considered to have better regulation an...

Re: Charge Pump Power Supply

Funny thing, I just ordered a WPDLXFMR-1 last week. Still waiting for the shipping notice. I just finished routing all the traces for my own 8 @ 9Vdc isolated supply PCB. I'm going to pull apart the other DIY power supply I made with 2 @ 18 Vdc and put them in the new one for a total of 10 outputs p...

LeftyStrat...Yes exactly, I was trying to express this very thing. The MBA's out there want to see huge $$ numbers on paper before they touch something. OR it seems that way. Hopefully what good comes out of a crashed economy and society in many ways will be a more reasonable and honest approach to ...

Re: What is wrong with SOZO?

you would need to be machine assisted in the construction process. And this is such an outrageous concept? One thing I've been realizing lately is that there is a lot of smaller scalable technologies out there to put to use. And necessity is always the mother of invention...or atleast inovation. I ...
