Re: Anybody tried bypassing V2 in an Express clone?
It's pretty interesting. Definitely changes how the amp breaks up. It's a much lighter overdrive but still has really good harmonics. Less noisy too, obviously. I didn't have any large high voltage caps on hand (around 1uF) so I have DC on the switch. I imagine it would pop insanely loudly so I only...

Re: Anybody tried bypassing V2 in an Express clone?
I just did this mod. I drilled for a heavy duty Carling DPDT between V2 and V3. The switch is wired to completely bypass V2 out of the circuit which gives a bit more room on the volume pot before the power amp distorts. I kept the 0.0022uF cap in the circuit. The Deluxe Reverb that is very similar t...

Anybody tried bypassing V2 in an Express clone?
I was considering adding a switch to take V2 out of the preamp circuit so the preamp is just V1 with the tonestack driving the PI.
Anybody try this? From my simulations it still overdrives the power amp pretty quickly.

Re: Modding 18W TMB to Rocket
Here's the schem I used for the build, it's the Trinity sIII boost. The cascade isn't shown. I'm going to start out with these mods and see how they sound. The schem is really low resolution. Basically I'm changing the power tube grid leaks from 470k to 220k, adding PI cut cap to take out fizz, lett...

Re: Modding 18W TMB to Rocket
Oh okay so you weren't really looking for any input on TW tone stack. :) Carry on. Mark Well I'm just wondering how much I should change... The amp is pretty modded as is, there is a pile of shielded runs to all the relays. Sounds like a TMB though. Actually it's mostly a Trinity SIII circuit. [img...

Re: Modding 18W TMB to Rocket
Why not just sell that nice looking TMB, get a chassis and build another amp? Mark I'm not interested in selling it. It's a prototype for a dual cascade reversible footswitch circuit I came up with. The footswitch chooses which channel comes first then adds the second channel after it. I think I us...

Modding 18W TMB to Rocket
I built this 18W TMB and recently made a 6V6 Express. The express is way more my thing. I'm considering changing up the TMB a little so that it's closer to the Rocket. I just need to order a few parts. Any input would be appreciated. Here is my amp: [img:800:533]http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4083/5...

Re: Another Radio Interference Thread
I used a grid to chathode capacitor on v1 with no grid stopper. I have 2 560pF 50V caps in parallel, amp is still super bright.

Re: probably sacriledge
Any comments on the effect of the shielding on the highs? Is it still inherently bright? It's very bright, has harmonic feedback all that's still there. I even have a 100k grid stopper on v2 leftover from tracking the oscillations. I'll take it out later. I also added to the input capacitance of v1...

Re: probably sacriledge
For what it's worth I just redid almost all of the preamp runs to the pots with foil shielded wire yesterday. The before and after difference was amazing! The hiss is very minimal now. My build is very cramped, I did my own layout and a smaller chassis with laydown PT. I had some oscillation but now...

I think it's a great idea. Maybe 10k resistor in series with 250k pot?

Re: question for experienced express builders
I had my guitar wired for independent volumes (pickup on volume lug 2, output on lug 3). This amp convinced me to go back to dependent volumes. Much better clean tones with the guitar turned down.
