Re: Lowering the bass in 124 power amp
I love my 124, but there is just too much bass in the power amp, even if I use my axe fx 2 preamp. What are the best ways to cut the bass in the power amp? Take the 0.1 caps to 0.05? What caps are best? Most efficient and transparent? Btw, I also have a built-in dumbleator so that may factor in on ...

Re: Here is a clip of my Too Rock amplifier. Please C&C
this sounds amazing joost! if you don't mind me asking, what exact mods did you do? this is the exact clean sound that i am hunting! Thanks, please note that part of the sound is in the guitar and pickups as well. Maybe more importantly still: speakers. I have two 112 cabs with a Scumback Scumnico ...

Re: Here is a clip of my Too Rock amplifier. Please C&C
I got the impression the mic was dead center on the cone. True or not, Joost? No, tbe mic was right at the edge of the cap, so partly on the cone, partly on the cap. But i agree the OD is a bit harsh in this clip, very different from the actual sound in the room I did have the bright engaged for th...

Here is a clip of my Too Rock amplifier. Please C&C
Here is a demo I did of my Too Rock amp with my Black One stratocaster. No EQ, filters, etc. Just a soft limiter to get better levels. Reverb comes from the T-Rex Roommate 2 in the amp loop. No idea where the pops in the first minute of the clip come from. Sorry about that. BTW, the last three licks...

Re: Built inside D-lator
I built a dumbleator inside my ODS 100W (#124) and powered it using the ODS power section as a basis.

Re: A Collection of #124 Information (Schematics, Layout, etc.)
Hey all! Just found this site and think I'm going to be addicted very fast :) Can anyone tell me how many watts this #124 is? Also, (possibly ignorant question) is this meant to be made as a "head" or a combo style? Does it not even matter? I'm trying to get educated about this subject... It's a 10...

Re: The best way to set the PI trimmer WITHOUT a scope?
Hi Joost, already forgot the procedure since friday? :P There are several ways to do this, I'll decribe 2, in both ways you have to use a load instead of a speaker to save your ears.; 1. Use the AMPEG SVT procedure. http://www.el34world.com/charts/Schematics/files/ampeg/Ampeg_SVT_RevA.pdf the proce...

The best way to set the PI trimmer WITHOUT a scope?
I have been reading everything I can about this on the forum and can only find threads that involve scopes and very difficult setup procedures. I have a signal generator which I can insert in the return from my built-in dumbleator and measure the DC balance at the phase inverter, but I keep reading ...

Re: Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN
Thanks for the replies everyone. Today, with the help of Erwin we tweaked the phase inverter and it made a lot of difference. we also tried to different tubes and a different slope resistor and a different mid-cap. I also changed the bass cap from a 6PS to a xicon. We also were able to really dial i...

Re: Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN
I must say I am really surprised at the turn and tone of voice this thread has taken on. It's not what I'm used to on the amp garage. I am also very surprised that there are people here who think there is no difference between one cap and another, especially when we're talking about caps of entirely...

Re: Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN
Joost: maybe make the skyliner tonestack more towards a classic tonestack? Well, I don't know if that's the solution. You see, I like the basic 'voice' of the amp, I just want it a bit more transparent and harmonically rich. The Carr just has a richer/clearer sound. I figured that could be addresse...

Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN
After playing my amp for a year now, I am in the mood to do some more experimentation. I'm still really excited about the amp and its qualities. Even though this amp has a built-in buffered Dumbleator and master volume, it gets quite close to my benchmark clean tone. My benchmark clean tone is the C...
