Re: John Mayer and Milkman

Hi guys!

John bought the amp directly from me. Then he bought two of my 20W Creamers. It's been an incredible boost for milkman!

I love that he is using the amps!

Re: 5F1M Champ Micro Amp

I built that exact same amp (pretty dang close - mine had a tone pot instead of master volume) a few years back for a friend. I really disliked the fizzy distortion tone, and tried just about everything to get rid of it, but eventually gave up and decided with some other forum memebers in another th...

Re: Carbon comp resistors

oh yeah - I meant grounding cathodes of the power tubes or something like that. For some reason people go crazy about the path to ground for the audio circuit. No rules there.

Safety ground is a whole other thing

Re: Carbon comp resistors

I have a huge stash of vintage Allen Bradley carbon comps, and I use them for nearly 100% of my amp circuits. The one spot I prefer carbon film is in the reverb mix circuit because the CC can get a bit noisy there. Any noise they add can be engineered out by balancing the gain structure of the amp i...

Re: "Line level" output help

The output impedance of a triode is somewhere in the 20-30k range depending on what you use. That means you should be fine with just a t-pad on the output to knock the signal down. I'd put the pad or a pot after the coupling cap and call it done If you want to get fancy you can add a diode clamp cir...

Re: Princeton Reverb Help

sometimes its something simple - like the output jack is still nearly shorted when the cable is plugged in. Pretty sure Mojo kits ship with Chinese input and output jacks - I would visually inspect the shorting output jack a Princeton has a cathodyne PI so you can't screw up the 470ohm resistor like...

Cool mini doc about Creston guitars, and a dash of Milkman

I inadvertently provided the soundtrack for this mini doc - when they interviewed me, they caught some nonsensical noodling on film (both on guitar, and not)

Re: bad power in club

It may not be a power issue. It might be an acoustics issue. I played a gig a few years ago. We got everything set up and proceeded to do a sound check before the guests arrived. I was playing through a Tone Master head into a single, open back EVM12L and I could not believe my ears! Shrill, thin, ...
