Can't attach pics
How do I attach pics to a post? I click the little image link, but it doesn't seem to be working for me.

Re: Weller soldering stations
Ok, maybe my units are simply getting old. They're hand-me-downs.

Weller soldering stations
I have Weller WES50 and WESD51 soldering stations. I run mine flat out at 850. Anybody else prefer their heat this high? Anything lower just seems too slow. I like the longer, narrow screwdriver tips.

Re: Budget Soldering Station
I'm looking to spend around $100. I also looked at older Hakko 936s, but their various sites are a bit confusing as to whether tips are still in production. After reading up about the more popular units, I've decided that it doesn't matter much, lol. Buy the station, find the tip I like and immediat...

Budget Soldering Station
I'm cheap. For years, I only used what I could get tips for locally. I've moved and will now have to mail order tips regardless. I've been looking at Edsyn 951SX and ye olde Weller WES51 and its digital variant. Any experience with these two units? Are all replacement parts readily available? Pros/c...

Re: Structural integrity
Yeah, shipping upside down is a good idea and, um, use washers when mounting stand-up transformers. Don't be one of those guys that relies on only dinky undersized screw heads to hold down a 12# transformer.

Re: metal for chassis
Yeah, Mcmaster Carr and a zillion other suppliers carry it. Your local scrap yard is a good place to look as well.

Re: Hall VVR in Selmer T&B 50
Haven't tried in a fixed bias amp, but I successfully used a Hall VVR in a Rocket clone. I squeezed the mosfet against an externally mounted heatsink that looked like the attached pic. I did a tidy job of it by drilling and tapping the heatsink to stand vertically on the chassis so the chassis itsel...

"And up next on the auction block is an original factory Stancor box that once sheltered a mighty A-3801 of Trainwreck fame!!! Our experts have thoroughly examined both pieces of cardboard and believe they have found two small flecks of gray paint....We all know what that means! As the paint chips a...

Re: High-RPM Tool for Drilling Circuit Board Holes?
Wow, y'all are hard on bits! I must be lucky cuz I've been using the same old 3/32" bit for many boards (mostly G10) and never had a problem drilling properly sized clean holes with my $20 POS Chinese benchtop drill. I often use the same bit for drilling pilot holes in aluminum as well. Go figure.
