Re: Considering a Thiele Cab

I'm a little more upbeat on the Thiele than Bill or Mac daddy. On the plus side, it's hard to get a bigger sound in such a small package and you can't beat a ported design for efficiency. With the right speaker, I think they can sound great. My complaints about the TL806 are that it because of it's...

Re: Considering a Thiele Cab

If not two cabs, maybe two backs to see which one I like before I finish the thing off!!! That'd work fine. My wife might be concerned if I carry too many things into our house!!! :)

Any science behind the oval?

Re: Marshall JCM800

The gain pot is really sensitive right in that sweet spot between clean and truly overdriven.. I hear you on that! Very touchy right in there! I find that my JCM800 has quite a nice clean tone. When jamming with them, I don't tell the old-timers that are using it that it's known as a famous metal a...

Re: Considering a Thiele Cab

What kind of sent me down the path of considering it was a closed back cab would be a good thing for my playing situations. Of course, a 1 X 12 closed cab isn't something I would even consider (I've never heard 1X 12 closed back that I really liked for guitar), but a Thiele would direct all the soun...

Considering a Thiele Cab

...for my 50W #102 clone.

I have plans for a cab designed for an EV-12L. Does anyone have plans for a cab designed for a G12-65? I'm not sure which I'll go with.

Is the Thiele worth the trouble?

Re: Marshall JCM800

Well back to the JCM800. I got together 10 minutes in row so I plugged up and ran it through a few paces with my LP and a cord. It was exactly what I suspected in some ways and not in others. Here are some issues I found: 1. The reverb knob is only for decoration, it does NOTHING. (???) 2. It is a ...

Re: Vox AC30 Breaking up Too Soon

I'm wondering if miswired electrical outlets could cause problems. When I took my Bassman to church, the standby light worked backwards. It sucked the light out of the room??? Man, that clever comment struck me as really funny.. It was clever, and I'm over tired on top of it... Wow, I'm glad I didn...

Re: Footswitch multi connector cable

Tonemerc, I need six conductors plus one ground. A six pin DIN plug also has a ground connection, so if I can get 6 conductor unshielded cable with a ground conductor too, that's what I need. I was looking at 8 conductor in case the 6 conductor doesn't have a ground conductor too. 7 conductor is ha...

Re: next build - advice?

FWI IMHO if you're going to build a 183/102 I highly suggest a D-lator and 68pF bright cap on the Master as well as high pF RG-400 cables (can be bought through Steve @ Apex Jr.). With the use of a good quality Delay & Verb it makes for a very musical rig IMO. I'll only need the cap in about 2 week...

Re: Marshall JCM800

If this thing fires up and really sounds good (after any maintenance), it will get used. We won't use a "stereotypical" Marshall, but if this is as versatile as has been discussed here, it'll be fine. As long as we can isolate the beast. I'm planning on starting this on Saturday. I don't know how in...

Re: Marshall JCM800

Just clean it and roll some tubes through there first. Out of vogue? No way. It's the second best Marshall sound. G-12-75s It's a metal amp. At gain settings less than 7 and master less than 5 it's brutally unmagical. The tone controls do almost nothing. I'm not saying there's no market for it, it'...

Marshall JCM800

Hey all, I just brought home a JCM800 head that my worship leader was given as a permanent loan. The amp is supposed to be functional, but with some "issues"... I don't know as I haven't even powered it up yet, and it'll likely be the weekend before I do, but I'm told it has the following issues: No...
