Re: Changing caps to get a more transparent, sparkly, rich CLEAN
Just my input, but I always felt that a big part of the ramblers sound was the fact that both 6l6s are running in class A. Also I don't believe that it is using a standard long tail Phase inverter, I think it is something closer to a 5e3 style phase inverter

Re: Does shielded wire really kill your tone?
sonicmojo- Sorry, i should have been more clear..the kind of noise i am hearing is the kind of feedback you would hear with a modded marshall or old boogie that has the gain maxed and your just holding the strings down...and dynamically when i play, it feels like a wild, piercing feedback that you c...

Re: Does shielded wire really kill your tone?
I was mainly concerned with the shielding inside of the amplifier. I have a 183 clone that i built into a large chassis (probably not the best idea in hindsight) so long wire runs were hard to avoid....I have shielding on all the grid wires except V1B as well as on both legs of the master volume pot...

Does shielded wire really kill your tone?
Ive read somewhere once that using shielded cable absolutely kills your tone. Is there some truth to this, or am i reading to far into it?

Its interesting that the second tone stack is right before the OD gain stages, Id love to hear how that blends with the 100k/1.5k setup.

Re: 183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
I ended up cleaning up the lead dress throughout the entire amp, and that seemed to cure the problem. So im guessing that i had a grid wire to close to a plate wire or possibly my NFB wire was to close to my PI wires. I would have never guess lead dress had that much of an effect!

Re: 183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
Hey guys, sorry for the delay. It took a bunch more troubleshooting, but i found the problem. I took some time and cleaned up the lead dress in general. It hasn't blow a fuse since and thankfully my OT is fine. I know this build wasn't the norm, but thanks for all your help guys..much appreciated!

Re: 183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
I have tried both 6l6's and EL34's and i have pins 1 and 8 tied together and then grounded. Please excuse the messy lead dress in the pictures : / The little PC board is a power supply for the effects loop in there, it runs off of the screen B+. Ive been trouble shooting with the little PC board dis...

Re: 183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
Ok guys, heres a quick update...I pulled the tubes and powered the amp up, all voltages seemed to be fine at that point. I put the output tubes in and powered it up once more....but the fuse blew instantly. I even changed the output tubes and the same thing happened. I figure it has to be the tubes ...

Re: 183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
Sorry guys...I should mention that i did add a thing or two of my own to this build. One of those things was adding a fuse between the power transformers HV secondary center tap and ground, currently that fuse is a 500ma fast blow-this is the fuse that keeps going, sorry for not clarifying. Also, wh...

183 build keeps blowing fuses.....
Ok......so i finally finished wiring up my 183 build. I hit the power switch for the first time and all seemed fine, I did a voltage check on the filaments and bias-all was fine. I hit the standby and nothing blew up...but there was no sound. I realized that i was a jackass and i didnt wire the scre...
