Re: Question covering with one piece of Tolex
Clamp a couple of lengths of wood to the bench with a large block glued at the end of each or even a couple of cross lengths screwed on. Some set up so that it can support the cabinet from the inside while you work on the outside. Grab the baffle cut-out or other inside surfaces to turn it over as n...

Re: Rebuilt Transformers
Excellent! And uhoh.. this is going to cost a tiny fortune. At least I will be able to finish thinking about it. :) Thank you! Hopefully not a tiny fortune if you can find the right person/company with some interest in rewinding old iron for old amps. I've done my own and have a local business I've...

Re: Rebuilt Transformers
Back to your original question, any transformer winder will be able to crunch numbers on the coil design to fit the existing cores and target the new loaded output voltage you are after. Only thing that gets negotiable is if they have the tools to and are willing to replicate the original constructi...

Re: Early black face Bassman.
I did some repairs on one years ago for a friend. Was a 1964 model and in good condition. Also fell in love with the tuxedo look with the Brownface era shaped white knobs instead of the later skirted knobs. The bass channel sounds wonderful for guitar and contrasts with the normal channel nicely. I ...

Re: Help with signal bleed on a 1964 Gibson GA-30 RVT
So a few years ago I built a custom jazz amp heavily based on a Gibson GA-75 for someone (single channel version with a number of extra features). There are some differences to your GA-30 RVT but also a lot of similarities. I had exactly the same problem that you are describing! I was pulling my hai...

Re: Single Ended Amps - Opinions
I don't like the overdriven tone from a SE power stage anywhere near as much as a PP power stage. Two reasons: I like PP amps with a healthy amount of screen compression best. It effects not just the tone but also the dynamic feel of the amp. SE can only ever have that on one side of the waveform. S...

Re: New 14 watt Express build
Classic high performance interleaving that. The ones I've done with that pattern have sounded great.

Re: New 14 watt Express build
I've always wondered how an Express with a 6K6-GT output stage would go. I bet it's killer!
Great to see someone else winding their own transformers too. A labour of love (and hate) but you get what you want and in some cases what you can't even buy from elsewhere.

Re: Interesting transformer lineup. FYI.
There are lots of others too, spot checking across the range. Quite a few OTs with the wrong primary impedance and PTs with the wrong HT secondary voltage.

Re: Digital potentiometers
I don't know that it's much of a problem, but yes my pedal avoided it. My stereo at home only have 64 steps on the volume control and you don't really notice the steps as you turn up and down. With 256 step resolution it is probably more than adequate. Depends what parameter you're controlling with ...

Re: Digital potentiometers
I built a custom digital volume pedal for someone a few years ago, which was my first look at digital pot chips. Once I worked out the right one to use that had the serial comms setup I wanted to use with the Arduino that controlled it, it was a breeze and worked great. The analogue side was just li...
