Re: DIY tube mic preamps?

Yeah, went there. Top-notch work! Seems He's sold the only cherry cab he had, however.

Need Head!! (cabinet, that is) for my TW Express
Just a nice cherry, along the lines of Kens originals. I don't need the matching face plate. Who's making em'?

Re: Started New Express build
"sorrycharly" is the guy. I actually called him up and gave him the dimensions for trainwreck cabs. He built one for me but I never bought one yet. oops. I'd actually rather buy one of his pine "bassman" cabs! Nice price!

Re: Started New Express build
That is a different layout, nice to see. Is the cab in the picture the one you call the "100 dollar cherry" cab from Ebay.? Thanks Here is the $100 ebay Cherry cab unfinished, hope to start on that soon but not sure what color tone I'm going with in the stain. Trying to keep the build cost way down...

Re: First Express build success
Yes, both. Works better for single coil however. My specific values for single coil are 180k carbon-comp resistor and 750pf polystyrene (hi-fi) cap on a 250k pot. I also prefer NO tone pot (always seems to shave a little "chime" off the top) unless it's a delta (Fender) pot. I haven't really found m...

1965 Blackburn Mullard in V1. +1! That really helped! Now...on to the power-tubes.

Re: First Express build success
Hahahaha! You like the faceplate, Bob? I may have to ask you for another custom engraved one. Not happy with yours? Looks like you got a couple of beauties there. What don't you like about them? Yeah, seems people aren't letting greenbacks go cheap. The vintage speaker market is somewhat of a crapsh...

Re: First Express build success
Might've answered my own question on speaker choice. Greenbacks are what I was thinking but just wanted some opinions on a newer speaker with those attributes. I'll have a look at those scumbacks. I have an old 4x12 Marshall from '69 but the speakers were already long gone  Nice sounding cab th...

First Express build success
Just wanted to thank you guys! I'm loving this thing! Fired up with no problems. Pretty quiet even past 12:00. Gonna be building an AirBrake cuz this thing is LOUD! but very dynamic and sweet. Never played anything like it. What speakers do you guys suggest would be a good match? My V-30's are a bit...

Re: Got shocked BAD
Serious stuff here. Got shocked as a kid fiddling around inside an old silvertone head (not a clue as to how it worked and what I was doing). Threw me back into a wall and was spitting out green mucus afterwards. Some years later found out I had damaged some tissue in my heart when I developed a tac...

Re: new source for Trainwreck head cabs
Yes, He's very professional at a great price. He's unable to work, after 30+ years in carpentry, due to an illness so He's decided to do small stuff in his own shop. It is what it is. Not so sloppy, however. A nice cheap way to get your chassis into a decent box. That's all. I wouldn't worry about t...

Re: new source for Trainwreck head cabs
True. $79 is hard to beat. I've already claimed one and may need another. I, personally, am not worried about it. I baby the heck out of my amps. This one will probably not even need a case as I don't throw them in a trailer, bouncing around with everything else, like some guys I know.

Re: new source for Trainwreck head cabs
Pine isn't road-worthy Tell that to Leo Fender. All of the tweed cabs were pine. I have a real '59 Bassman that hasn't had tweed on it for 35 years. It was rubbed with tung oil and has held up fine on the road---it's been gigged hard and still is great. Pine is absolutely fine to use. Andy of cours...
