a 6SN7 wreck - Woohoo!

Brian, Any update on your Wreckless progress? I love my wreck but my ears and my neighbours are not so pleased. For the studio, I built the simple uTube 6SN7 amp and I really love the mellow and clean sounds. I had been thinking a wrecked preamp version for a while when I saw your msg. I hope we can...

EARLIER BREAKUP

I changed to 6V6s from EL34s and as suspected, the volume (and onset of saturation) change was not all that obvious. Remember that it takes 10x the power to double the apparent volume that your ears hear. The 6V6s are still quite LOUD with efficient speakers. What you will more likely find is that e...

Trainflex experience?

Has anyone built to the Trainflex 1-1 schematic version? I am looking for opinions on how the combination of these mods sounds. It seems to me RossH mentioned he just collected the mods into one schematic and I don't recall reading of anyone relating their experience in actually building to it. I wi...

3rd stage plate resistor variations

Anyone tried using the 80k/20k type setup on other stages? How did it affect the sound?

chassis suppliers

You can always try the hammond stuff. I really like their black chassis finish which is quite robust. They may not be the cheapest, but the quality is great and they have a good selection of sizes and types. I built a HO in a 16 x 8 x 2 and just ordered a rack mount type enclosure with vents for a p...

Re: New express clone----Clip Inside----

Great sample.

Can you tell us the amp settings and speakers used? What was the the "adjusted" filament voltage during the recording?

Thanks

Re: Komet Pics

Wow! These amps are exquisitely laid out and constructed.

The chassis should be in a clear plexiglass case, for all the world to see how to do it right.

Great pics, thanks!

Re: Switching Info

We revel in the animated discussion and enlightenment. Its only arguing if we become obstinent about our opinions... I got around to looking at the Weber channel switch board and I was pleasantly suprised to see it at only $8! Thats hardly more that the cost of parts alone, let alone the effort to m...

simple switching?

I have to agree with Omar that using a kit after building the whole amp seems to defeat the purpose of building them ourselves. Besides, I think the TUT relay kit only does one A-B switching. Their quad relay kit at $85 gets quite expensive. I would need to footswitch at least three functions 1) rev...

TUT1

I have to agree Omar. The TUT series of books has been very informative however they get quite involved and simplistic solutions are not easy to come by. Can it not be as simple as wiring up a few relays with short internal chassis leads and low DC voltages sent to footswitches to activate them? LED...

Re: Speaker choice: go 15"!

It will take a while for sound clips as I need to start tuning the initial A1a build. I wanted to complete the speaker box so I can have a decent starting point to work from. As suspected, I will need less treble cut and bass boost now that the new box accomodates the tone better. I will try to reco...

Re: Who sells Mallory caps at a good price?

Another source for caps is Antique Electronic Supply: http://www.tubesandmore.com/ I can't comment on how cheap they are, particularly when considering Mallory or other expensive components, but at least they may have what you need. For the 80uF they do have a multi section or two: ex: CAPACITOR, EL...

MSS SP115 speaker box picture

I guess it is easier to send the picture as an attachment... Hope it works.

The speaker appears to be almost blocking the port due to the lack of depth perception in the picture, but there is actually about 3 - 4" between the speaker magnetand the back of the box.

Front pic coming soon...
