Thanks for all the info.
That should keep me busy researching for a while.

Re: Help convert the Rocket to bass amp
Thanks for responses. Yes, only the bass seems to induce intermittent squeal but there is a very fast quiet ticking sound with both guitars. I guess maybe one of the valves is faulty. I'll do some valve swapping tomorrow. The OT, A-470-S can handle 70watts. Would swapping the 4XEL84 for two KT88 wor...

Help convert the Rocket to bass amp
I’ve started playing bass through my rocket and quite like the sound apart from occasional squealing and other noise. Not sure what's causing it. (Harmonics??) I don't mind any sag, distortion or overdrive. Is it possible to make it more bass friendly? I’ve already built a Greenboy 15/6/1 bass cab a...

Re: 45 Degree Miter Cuts in Cab
Thanks
The keyed bit was also fragile on the soft pine. I had to use sacrificial blocks before and after the cut to stop them from getting knocked off by router bit. Here's a image that shows the key.

Re: 45 Degree Miter Cuts in Cab
I used a lock miter router bit and borrowed a router table. I did make a few stuff ups but are very happy with results.

Re: Rocket EL84 pair red plating.
AC is correct at 260 and 300v to the rectifier. 5v to rectifier and 6.5 to heater filament. The dropping resistors are there and were working before. I'll check for short and re-do power supply. Only one EL84 not glowing on standby. All other valves glowing. Changed position of of faulty valve and i...

Rocket EL84 pair red plating.
Hi I’m trying to work out a fault on my Rocket causing a pair of EL84’s to red plate. On stand-by, one isn’t glowing so I guess that’s causing its partner to red plate also. I had a 100uf reservoir capacitor after the GZ34/protection diodes which I think might be the root of the problem. Between B1 ...

I've made myself a bulb limiter especially for the occasion.
Thanks for the pointers.

Re: Unloaded transformer voltages help
Volts to earth are: 270 for the 300v 244 for 260v 72v for the 5v to ground and 5v across. The only wires connected are the white 6.3v center tap to to pin 3 of EL84's and red and yellow 300v/260v certer tap to the Earth. http://members.iinet.net.au/~tinasime/Classic-tone-40-18065.jpg Thank's for you...

Unloaded transformer voltages help
I've finally finished a rocket I started 2 years ago. 1st amp build and the unloaded voltages for Classic Tone 40-18065 are: 477v 17.2v ?? and 6.3v Are these normal or is it the Australian mains supply? The transformer is 50/60hz 240v I don't want to blow up my amp after such a long wait! http://mem...

Etched face plate
For aluminium you use a solution of aluminium sulphate and for steel you use ferric sulphate, although I found it doesn't seem to work as well. Connect your plate as the positive and any metal as the negative (cathode). You may need to experiment a fare bit. I used a cooking hot plate and an iron to...

Etched face plate
I'm building a Rocket with etched brass plates using the toner transfer method from a laser printer and copper sulphate solution electro etched using a 4V 800mA wall-wart.
"Press n peel" paper seems to work best but is expensive. I used some cheap toner transfer paper from ebay.
