Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

RockinRocket,Yes both JMP's are the same circuits down to plate voltages, presence/NFB, pot vales etc.. It's been a journey but very enlightening. I apologize for my part in the unintended hijacking of your Logo thread. I have a great interest in continuing the discussion related to everything Trai...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

I agree that Ken had a standard circuit with given values and materials that were the basis of the amp models he developed. I also know that my 70 JMP50 doesn't sound the same am my 76 JMP50 even though they are the same circuits. I'm accepting that some of the components in each vary in their actu...

Re: Where to find Trainwreck Logos?

I agree that Kens amps had an abundance of mojo. All that I have heard have been fine sounding amps but a few really stand out to me as what I look for in a Trainwreck. They may not be the examples that are others favorites. Ken built amps for many individuals with the intention of it being an amp ...

Sounds weird to me but I don't think the bias is the issue.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.

Inserting the flea clips are a real pain if you don't have the vectorboard tool. My first board I made I used a flathead screwdriver, It worked but I damaged a quite a few clips and had to replace them.

Re: Late to the Trainwreck party, gonna build one anyway.

I was referring to the black fiber used by Fender to make boards, which is what I've always known as Garolite. That it's actually a name for G10 is new information to me. No, G10 epoxy board is pretty much waterproof. However, it WILL absorb ethylene gylcol and become conductive, which is (was) an ...

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

Here is a short video done with my iPhone 3rd build with Heyboer power and output trans. New TubeAmp Doctor / PS Vane EL34’s and JJ 803s 12AX7’s I think pretty close to the mark I compared to recording of my original Express I had in the early 90’s https://youtube.com/shorts/__tE0_6Lq-Y?feature=sha...

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

Then suppose we buy their declaration at face value, it still doesn't really make sense that the Official Wreck Power Tranny has a 100mA HV tap. That just sorta drives the doubt in my mind that they are really on top of things concerning the specifications. What would a 100ma HV tap do and is that ...

Re: Noob wants to build his first Wreck. Request guidance.

If you move the PT and OT apart, the result will still sound similar, but there will be a difference to my ear. I've wondered why the PT and OT are so closely positioned in Wreck builds. Can you describe the difference you hear? Probably because the chassis was what was available to Ken and it is s...

Re: Pete Thorn Trainwreck Video

Lots of original Trainwreck Expresses and Liverpools were stable at full volume. I had several. However I would never run them like that because they were too dense and "muddied". And most did not have the grid stoppers.. Your amps were stable full volume including TMB and presence set to 10/max? I...

Re: How did Ken Fischer test his output transformers?

I'm curious too.. It would be extremely hard and annoying to swap transformers in a Wreck. Reject aka undocumented express has a circular hole on the power supply board cut out to access the 1 bolt that is other wise hidden. Wonder what the story is on this. Did the output need replaced and was the ...

Re: Pete Thorn Trainwreck Video

Great Sounding Amp, Great Sounding guitars, Great sounding guitar player... almost perfect except you get to hear a little bit of hum when he is telling the story of everything. That little touch of hum gives me the feeling the recording is authentic and not a studio creation. Has me thinking I'll ...

Dimed all knobs Trainwreck and stable?

I think I read that you are supposed to be able to dime every knob to 10 turn away from the amp, play and a real Trainwreck is stable.

I'm pretty sure Glen said he had to change his 47p PI snubber to 100p to keep the amp stable but I don't remember if that was the amp dimed.
