Re: Background oscillation

The oscillation is present on the output side driven by an external guitar preamp. Using the amplifiers preamp send into an external amp the oscillation is all but eliminated. On an internet inspired whim, I piggybacked a new, matching cap (22/450) to each of the power supply caps starting with E & ...

Re: Background oscillation

Thanks Tragic & xtain,
Yes there's a passive loop, I will give a listen to both sides. I have a preamp effects unit to feed the 6L6 power section, and an outboard power amp to listen to the preamp section.
I'll investigate a grid resistor after that.

cheers,
Dez

Background oscillation

I took one of my first builds and blew out the cat fur to assess it's status. The project was from 2013. https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17084 and was basically a D'lite 2x 6L6 in a Bassman chassis. At that time it was very enjoyable to play, since then other builds wiggled into the ...

Bassman Board ID

Happy 2018 TAG, Probably 2, maybe 3 years ago I scored an incomplete "project" from Reverb or Ebay, It came wrapped in a decent Bassman head, with an original Bassman chassis, black nameplates (might be original), all new pots, and what looks like a prewired board installed. Xformers included. Every...

Gig report

I worked with my country quartet last night. Instead of my massive 2-10 tank cabinet, I grabbed my sons Carvin 1-12 cabinet http://www.carvinguitars.com/products/112AG and packed off to the gig. Immediately the cleans were full and expressive off my Nashville style Partscaster. (all 3 PU's are rails...

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

Since the Bassman chassis I used doesn't actually FIT a Bassman cabinet, and having 4 gigs coming up, I really want to take the amp out. I'm waiting for a finger joint template to be delivered, and then have to figure out what wood and finish I'm going to use. In the meantime I had some 3/4 birch pl...

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

Lou, Thanks for keeping it light. The reading numbers tell a story and don't lie. Absolute and unyielding in an environment full of variables. Your persistence paid off. I played this amp this evening for an hour. The clean side has a world of volume it didn't have before. My time was spent looking ...

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

And there it is. Jazzguitargimp & bcook, the only thing worse than making an error is repeating it multiple times. My inexperience at both measuring and reading resistors and DMM's. 3.3 won't get the job done. 3.3K will. I see it checked off on my Mouser BOM but can't be 100% that it made it onto th...

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

I swapped the 10K bias tail for the 24K. In checking the V1 I found that pin 3 lead was going to an electrolytic on the PA board with a 10uf rating. Almost all the layouts show a 5uf. I did find one layout with two 10uf caps there. (The ones paralleled w/the 3k3 and 2k2). I changed it for a 5uf, thi...

Can I series a 24k & 3.3k until I secure a 27k?

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

The resistors have been changed on the capacitor board. 2.2K,22K, 2.2K (was existing). There is some improvement in the voltages, some are spot on, other still high, but less so, and a couple on V1 are way low to falling off the chart. I've tapped out a couple of wonky grounds on the common buss. V3...

Will do. Just getting set up now.

Gary, don't even waste your time installing the 1K, at least install a 2.2K there.

Re: Bassman Build-up (a bit long)

Oh boy. Thanks to the responses, I've spent the last two hours looking at what there and whats needed in terms of resistors to get the voltages under control. I could take a picture, but suffice it to say, the 220K/3W resistors are fine but going up the side from where the 1K/3W should be, all three...
