Re: Any magic in the Paraphase inverter?

I hope so! I'm closing in on wrapping my Tremolux-inspired project. Waiting for more parts to come in...Hot Blue Plates (among others) on the Hoffman forums seems to think the paraphase is part of the mojo, from what I read (I read a LOT of 5E9-A threads while fleshing out my project). Here's a thre...

Re: Can I use 6v6's in a 69 Super Reverb ?

Maybe swap in a 5Y3 or 5R4 with the JJ 6V6? I was thinking about that also. Anyone else want to comment on that idea ? 5Y3 would probably lower the voltage, maybe 25V. 5R4 is a ruggedized 5U4, so no difference there. Respectfully, I believe the 5R4 has a higher voltage drop than the 5U4.

Re: Modded Tremolux

Well, after a long time waiting, I finally got this together over the weekend. While everything *works*, it needs a few tweaks. Here goes: -Bias resistors will need modification. The 250/333/500 setup isn't quite going to cut it. With a 5Y3 and 6K6GT tubes, they're running at 108% dissipation with a...

Re: Broken 5E3 for sale locally - worth checking out?

Yeah, unless it's some kind of super-deluxe high-quality parts kit, that's way too much money. $800 CAD is around $580 USD, according to Google. I wouldn't pay nearly $600 for something that's known to eat tubes, whether they're boo-teek parts or not.

Re: Taming amp gain in single channel deluxe reverb build

From the drawing and text, it appears they meant PI rather than PT in some places, and PT is short for Power Tubes in others. A touch confusing, for sure...

Re: Yet Another Two Stroke build

Well, the upgraded OT will give you better bass response, for sure. In a little Champ or Princeton, the little 8" speaker can't necessarily handle more bass. Since you're going with a 12", though, I'd think a better OT would be worth it. In the old tweed Champ, that's kinda part of the charm: The co...

Re: Yet Another Two Stroke build

So why don't I get one of those? Because they are respectively $95 and $91, whereas the W022905M is ~$32. I have no issues paying more if the W022905M won't work, but if it will do an admirable job, why spend the extra money? Yes, I agree that subbing one of those in is a large difference in cost. ...

Re: Its gonna be a party

We had several people for our downtown festivities, but not nearly the apocalyptic number people were expecting. Actually, my brother has a band, and the promoter cancelled on him last-minute due to not enough people attending their event. Personally, though, the experience was awesome. The last ecl...

Re: Yet Another Two Stroke build

Did one of these myself several years back. Did you know they actually make this as a kit (they call it a Maggie): https://www.tedweber.com/maggie-c-kt/ It comes with a very beefy upgraded OT, as well as a 8"/10" speaker combo. Looks like they finally updated the layout to get the screens on the rig...

Re: Its gonna be a party

My city is in one of the 4 minutes of totality areas. The city is really gearing up for it to be a big deal. I guess hotels are all sold-out. My wife opened a candy store downtown last year, so I'm hoping some out-of-towners discover it and spread the word. Just really hoping for no/few clouds that ...

I rebuilt a Weber 6M45 that someone else couldn't get working. Their issue? That cap board. I replaced it with cans and never looked back. Good luck in whatever direction you go!

Re: Signal mute when wiring is tied with cable ties?

Just chiming in to agree here. If it goes totally dead, you should be able to check each of these wires for continuity. If it's wired like the schematic indicates, my guess would be the wire feeding the tonestacks. To me, that seems like the one most likely to kill all sound. Anyhow, kudos on fittin...

Re: Sound checked Blackvibe 6L6 rebuild to reverb channel without tremelo

Could one use a light bulb limiter for something like this? As in, bulb gets bright, then dims as caps charge, etc. Then, turn everything up an see if the bulb glows brighter as knobs are twiddled? I've never thought to test for oscillations, but if this works, it seems like an easy step to add to t...
