Re: Its gonna be a party

My city is in one of the 4 minutes of totality areas. The city is really gearing up for it to be a big deal. I guess hotels are all sold-out. My wife opened a candy store downtown last year, so I'm hoping some out-of-towners discover it and spread the word. Just really hoping for no/few clouds that ...

Re: Power filter schematic change help

I rebuilt a Weber 6M45 that someone else couldn't get working. Their issue? That cap board. I replaced it with cans and never looked back. Good luck in whatever direction you go!

Re: Signal mute when wiring is tied with cable ties?

Just chiming in to agree here. If it goes totally dead, you should be able to check each of these wires for continuity. If it's wired like the schematic indicates, my guess would be the wire feeding the tonestacks. To me, that seems like the one most likely to kill all sound. Anyhow, kudos on fittin...

Re: Sound checked Blackvibe 6L6 rebuild to reverb channel without tremelo

Could one use a light bulb limiter for something like this? As in, bulb gets bright, then dims as caps charge, etc. Then, turn everything up an see if the bulb glows brighter as knobs are twiddled? I've never thought to test for oscillations, but if this works, it seems like an easy step to add to t...

Re: V1 split cathode

In the typical bassman micro, V1 is paralleled. Wouldn't be hard to implement that here. Just 3 little wires...

Re: V1 split cathode

Sounds like pretty standard values. Pin 1, plate resistor and coupling cap; pin 2, grid resistor; pin 3, cathode bypass cap and resistor (although, since it's only 1/2 of the tube, I'd double the resistor to 1.5k-ish, as was mentioned earlier). The other triode is unused in this configuration.

The client . Hard to eat when what you are selling is simply all in your head … Well, if you and your clients believe it, bully for you! I'm truly happy for you! All I'm saying is, until whatever *it* is can be measured, it's only theoretical. No shame in that; lots of things are theories until the...

Re: What do you believe regarding the sound of passive components?

Seems to be getting a little testy in here...how about a simple summary that everyone (should) be able to agree on: If a component alters the sound, that alteration has to be able to be measurable somehow. We may not know exactly what to measure, but it *is* there. If ears can hear a difference, a m...

Re: Amp breaking up later after rebuilding?

Maybe try a 5R4? Can handle double the current of a 5Y3 and more than double the AC voltage with a similar voltage drop to a 5Y3. Just a thought!

Re: What do you believe about the sound of passive components?

Got a story that seems like it might fit here...had a jam at my house a while a back, and a bass player I respect was using my rig. He kept twiddling the EQ until he had it exactly how he wanted. The problem? The active EQ wasn't turned on...He was *certain* he'd dialed it in, though! Once I pushed ...

Well, here's an oldie-but-a-goodie of mine. County Fair burger (ground pork and bacon), Grippo's BBQ chips, and fried morels. All with a refreshing High Life Light to wash it down.

Re: What's for supper?

I had some boneless buffalo wings while watching the Niners win out against the Lions. SF is my home team, but it would have been good to see Detroit go to the Super Bowl. Coach will be kicking himself for turning the ball over on downs instead of kicking the field goal. That and the fumble lost th...
