Re: Rocket with switchable ef86?

I loved the ef86 channel in my bad cat, I used it a lot. Very musical. I did have to replace tubes often, especially after gigging. I talked to a studio owner who had a crem brulee, and he said the same thing. One tube that held up was a winged c, while it didn't sound quite as good as others, I cou...

His name is Reggie. I spoke to him last Saturday. Super friendly. He has his phone posted on his website, so I will post it here.

Swapped v2 with a 3rd known "good" tube - a cheap 12ax7. Problem gone!
Thanks for all the help!

Re: Express build - Hum

It is a hum, not raspy. I tried new tubes in all positions. Re-flowed solder joints, etc.I am still curious about the voltage on the PI, and why when I check them the hum stops. Re-checked the values / connections of all pots and the board. Chop sticked everything. It sounds like the hum from the tr...

Express build - Hum

I built an express a while back, and I have been tolerating the loud hum (not buzz) that appears when the standby is flipped - volume down or up. Now I have time to take a closer look It disappears only when v2 is pulled, the inverter is pulled, or when I check voltage on pins 2 or 7 on the PI. The ...

Re: Express bias problem

I haven't tried any of my "good" tubes yet. It still sounds good - at low volume so far, I will open it up with the band today and put it through it's paces. I did chopstick around and I think I might eventually move the cap on the presence pot. I can hear the transformer hum when I turn the amp on,...

Re: Express bias problem

Thanks for your help. It was a mistake due to my "color confusion", I missed a wire that was close to the same color as the board - at least to my eyes, and my smaller print out. When I enlarged the .pdf I could see it. Going from the bias on the board to r16 & 17. It sounds great, but it will need ...

Re: Express bias problem

I found a 120k - got me -40 to -50. Red plated, this time the fuse went. Once again the meter wouldn't read in the 200MV range.

Re: Express bias problem

range is -23 to -33. The voltages are pin: 3/412 4/407 6/407. Should 4&6 be the same?

Express bias problem

I am new to posting here, but I have been reading for a while, and I appreciate all the great info here. I just built an express, but I can't bias it. It red plates, and when I get a MV reading across the 1 ohm resistor, it says .1, if I switch to 2V, it says .274. I have strummed the guitar, and I ...
