Re: Strange Fender Bassman Head , need help ID -ing

as far as I know they were all solid, but some have plywood, instead of solid wood.
None of the early amp heads had holes through the grill cloth (in the wood, not the cloth).

If the amp is tuned/biased right, it shouldn't overheat.

darren

now I remember, Jessies DR is 2 years younger than Darrens and is the drip edge, SF DR. One of them had the cover, I forget which. Kevin (bass player) has my original 63 bassman, and 2 1x15 cabinets to match. I have another, now. Darren, also has my 18 watter (blonde, also), as I loaned it to him fo...

dr's for darren

Both Darren and Jessie bought those Deluxe Reverbs from me for less than 800 bucks each. (I think around 650 or 700, I forget, but you can ask him. I got them from my cousin in Spring Texas who was selling them for the original owners. I think Jessie's is a year older than Darren's, or vise-versa. I...

handle recess blocked

My hunch about that handle recess (my 6G6B has it) it that some power tubes got longer and possibly tried to melt that dog-bone handle, so they blocked it from getting too close to the tubes. Just a hunch. It was a butt ugly fix, tho' Later editions, with the brown, newer style handles, just had a c...

GZ34 and 5E3X2

on the GZ34 and 5E3X2.... I already did that on my double deluxe and it works like a champ. I recently gave that amp to my Luthier, and he loves it. Darren Welch of Lubbock, tx used it for a while and loved it too. I call it my "sneaker", as it is built in a deluxe chassis, in a 1x12 [deluxe style] ...

GZ34 rectifier

My 6G6B has the old hole already done for the rectifier, (blocked off with a cap[not capacitor])and it was originally used for a GZ34 which was originally used in the 6G6 circuit, so I say go ahead if you have the 5V leads from your PT or an extra transformer that will give you that 5v, for the tube...

fender blonde amps

I have 3 blonde amps 1 x '63 (6g6B) bassman and 1 x 63 (6g7a)bandmaster and a 6G14 Showman. The first 2 are original, with only slight mods (new tolex on the bassman and some new caps, the showman is a complete rebuild (by me), with new everything except the chassis and face/rear plates (built with ...
