Re: Point-to-point SLO preamp build w/ relay switching

Finally finished the laser engraved faceplate and glued it to the chassis. Thinking of doing the EVH white stripes on the cover, but I might leave it as is. Zlo is obviously a word play on SLO and in Serbian it means "Evil", thus the devil horns :) http://diy-fever.com/wordpress/wp-content/gallery/s...

Re: Guitar Gallery Thread! Post 'em up!

Yes, the head is unusual looking, but it's designed like that for a practical reasons. I wanted to keep the feel of a neck with a real headstock.

Re: Guitar Gallery Thread! Post 'em up!

Definitely not my taste but first grade workmanship, does it seem 8) Is there something you're doing wrong ? haha, many things, just ask my girlfriend :) Here's that guitar in action. I used all digital sims (Bias AMP) for that clip. It sounds much better now with the SLO preamp, but it was ...

Re: Point-to-point SLO preamp build w/ relay switching

Thanks, good to know. Here's another one. Timmy OD with gain set pretty low to tighten the bass in front of the SLO (gain at noon). In Reaper I have clean marshall sim (LePou) and two rosen digital impulses panned hard left/right. Could probably tweak the EQ to sound better, but I prefer this to the...

Re: Point-to-point SLO preamp build w/ relay switching

Thanks everyone! Adding few quick recordings. The first one is preamp straight into the interface. In reaper I added some EQ, Marshall JTM45 sim and a touch of reverb. The second one is pretty much the same settings but with Timmy overdrive at the front with gain set pretty low and Bass above noon t...

Point-to-point SLO preamp build w/ relay switching

Wanted to share my latest project - SLO preamp with relay switching instead of LDRs. I challenged myself to put it together in a relatively small enclosure (250 x 180 x 80mm) and wire the main circuit point-to-point. To make it even more challenging, I designed the layout in three dimensions to opti...

Re: Dumble SSS/Naylor Superdrive Build

1000uf is not small. Rule of the thumb is to go 1uf per 1ma of current. In this case you have 250ma, so 1000uf should be plenty. Is it possible that you have a short somewhere aroud the regulator? There shouldn't be almost any heat without the tube plugged. 100ma draw will probably make it dissipate...

Re: Carvin Quad X tube cascade - really smart or really stupid?

I'm close to finishing Soldano SLO preamp, so it will cover pretty much all my needs, especially with an overdrive at the front and graphic EQ at the back of the preamp....
but I was just curious about this thing because it features topology I've never seen on other amps.

Cheers

Re: Carvin Quad X tube cascade - really smart or really stupid?

There's pre-EQ and post-EQ and on top of that a graphic EQ. It all happens before and after this tube board.

Carvin Quad X tube cascade - really smart or really stupid?

Someone sells this preamp where I live...I'm itching to get it, it seems to be well thought of, although has much more features than I'd need for playing at home. I was interested to check what's inside and was surprised by the number of tubes - nine 12AX7! And lead channel consists of 11 triodes ca...
