Re: Rocket layout for VVR - new version
It seems right, but when you'll connect the VVR use the following idea. If you ordered the VVR Kit from Dana, you will have only to connect 3 wires: the ground, the input and the output suppy. it's like to have an extra standby switch: - the input wire of the VVR comes from the standby switch - the ...

Re: Modded Komet 60
can someone explain these mods? --> 100k to 220k: I think that this will increase the gain on this stage, am I right? --> 0.02 to 0.047: what change with this mod? will the sound be more round and with more bass? I thought that the rule of these caps was only a filter.. At the end, the overall gain ...

Re: Bunch of pics....
They look really good!
I have one Distorsion's cabinet here (really a great pce of art) and it has not the reinforces inside.. and it's really strong..
one time after removing the amp for tweaking, the cabined fall down to the floor from about 1.5 m and nothing moved..

Re: first build, output transformer buzzing,dc heaters
One part that can be checked 2-3 times is near the volume pot.. specially the position of the wire that comes from the 1st tube to the central pin of the pot (so the wire that goes out from the pot). Another important thing in sensitivity and noise is the 1st tube.. try replacing it.

resistor near the vol pot
Hi to everyone... I saw in some pics that sometimes KF put a resistor between the vol pot and the pin of the tube.. soldered directly to the pin of the tube (francesca vs kelly pics) Have someone tried this on his express? Is this only to reduce the total amount of gain or does it act like a filter?...

Re: VVR2 Liverpool layout help...pretty please?
Sorry.. I see now.. It seems that you inverted the wires from the vvr board to the pot! you have to consider the wires as if you are soldering the pot on the top of the board, not below as in your pic 1... in this way you will increase the volume turning the pot down.. but you can do as you want... ...

Re: VVR2 Liverpool layout help...pretty please?
This is right... 1M res goes always to ground. You have to put the .1 cap between the input and one side of the resistor.. after that the grounded wire goes to 1 section of the 1st 12AX7. mine works very good between 1/3 to max, while with the lowest volume I lose distorsion and feeling.. but no pro...

Re: Express Tone Controls
I think that the amp controls have not a big range.. (or other amps have a very bigger tone control range)... the amp sound good in quite all combinations you move them.. you have a unreal and fantastic control of the amp using vol and tone pot of the guitar.. and in this way you will hear every sma...

Re: VVR2 Liverpool layout help...pretty please?
with the liverpool you have only to connect 3 wires.. B+ in,B+ out and ground. Ground goes to a ground connection, after that you have to disconnect the out wires of the standby switch and connect: B+in: comes directly from the standby switch B+ out: goes directly to the big 25W resitor and I think ...

Re: Beautiful New Cab for my Express
I agree with you... Larry is very polite and makes fantatic cabs.. you can call them piece of art!
this is mine... I put a small drawing because while I was mooving the cab without the amp It fell down and was really damaged in that position!
I like very much the cherry finishing!!!

Re: Bright caps on EXP volume pot
Yesterday evening I had Lara opened for installing vvr, so I did this mod and change from francesca layout to the other one...
really you can hear the difference in sound.. now it's rounder and less bright.

Re: transformer
It's strange even to me... i leave the setting on the amp and on the guitar always the same With bedroom level I had plenty of distorsion, with other levels only more clean... at the end I realized i tweak on the vvr pot from min to max in the meantime.. I'm too stupid! I observed that after a value...

I've this problem: - with Z airbrake at bedroom level I have very good gain and distorsion and everything I heard in Glen's clips - without the airbrake or with different position of it the distorsion is not here anymore... checked many times all connections and re-soldered everything with everythin...
