I tried out some copper sheet and used an engraving bit for the legend. I've got others without any lettering as well.

octal tube amps
Cool project. Have browser will follow. Speaking of octal tube amps, my next project is an Ampeg Reverberocket R12R clone. I've got most of the parts, need power tranny. Gonna make the chassis for it of course. I've got two different chassis designs. One is the original combo config and the other is...

The test jig will only work if you've got a 576. If you really want one I can build you a fixture. Case is .09 aluminum, heavy duty with ceramic sockets, teflon wire, etc...

576 fixture
I made a modification to the test fixture by adding a pentode/triode switch. Why not. Can actually measure the difference in power (can hear it too). I've added a P/T switch to a TW express clone and it goes a long way in taming the volume. I haven't fully evaluated but will get around to it. It doe...

Acoustic pre
What I would do - just one mans opinion. Clean Preamp - fender BF but using a 6SL7, Clean Power amp - Cathode biased 6V6 for around 10-12 Watts (320V rail) or cathode biased EL34 (350V rail) for approx 35 watts. Slightly higher feedback levels than normal for a little tighter sound. For passive cry...

Using Tektronix 576 on vacuum tubes
I've got a 576 and I have built a test fixture for tubes. It has two octal sockets and a single 9 pin socket. There are hookups for heater and screen supplies. I allows me to test tubes under maximum operating parameters (or not) and view the resulting plate curves. I can do A/B comparisons of dual ...

Re: chassis, turret boards
Sure do, Tom! It's called TIG welding! Dood, great looking stuff. I'm in! I also need a set of copper plate face-n-back plates. I can cut the panels with no problem. However, lettering with the tool is limited to v-bit engraving (or micro ball nose). I am still in the R&D stages of what is possible...

non ferrous
Thanks. The nature of the tool limits it to non ferrous metals (hi speed rotary). Plasma or water jet would be needed for cutting steel.Firestorm wrote:Nice. Aluminum only, not mild steel? Just asking.
I like aluminum because it is non magnetic and won't propagate stray fields.

new vendors
Just thought of another idea that might work well. What if I provided a website for vendors of various components like chassis and transformers. I'm good on the software end, but the logistics of inventory and kitting might be more difficult. It would still be one-stop shopping, but maybe with drop...

Thanks for the compliment. I'm open for discussion.LeftyStrat wrote:I'd definitely like to talk. That chassis looks awesome. If RJ is indeed deciding to wind things down, there is definitely a need for your services. Check my post in Garage Talk about a new vendor. Perhaps we could work something out.

Re: chassis, turret boards
Nice chassis! What kind of cutting tool makes the holes? (Laser? Water? Cutter?) Do you weld the corners? What type of fasteners do you use on the chassis to cab mounting holes? Thanks! It is a rotary cutting tool. I don't weld anything, I am not set up for it. I use .090 3003-H14 sheet. It is pret...

chassis, turret boards
If anyone is interested, I can fabricate turret boards and aluminum chassis fully cutout for amplifier projects. I use a CNC tool and can do fairly precision work. So far I've got a Trainwreck Express chassis layout and a Marshall 2204 50W layout. I'm looking at doing an Ampeg Reverbrocket (octal tu...
