Ahh, I get it. Clever.
I won't have space issues with the layout I'm using. We're really trimming the fat here and just doing the one clean channel.

Re: Need advice on building an amp with tons of clean headroom
I'm off and running with the AB763 build according to the schematic and layout posted earlier. I'm going to give it a shot with the 6V6's as designed. I have a sneaky suspicion that will be enough. If it isn't, I will modify as necessary to run 6L6's. (cross that bridge if we come to it) I don't und...

Re: I'm giving up on noiseless single coils.
I'm sad you're disappointed with the Area pickups. They are by-far the best at reproducing a true single coil tone. For everyone who says they all suck, those ones usually change their mind. Unfortunately, most people are exposed to them by Fender Noiseless, and those don't sound anything like singl...

Re: Favorite Tuner Machines?
I too have been using the Sperzels for many years. The locking feature is great - I've gotten to the point where I pull the string as tight as I can before I lock it down and I am getting only about a quarter-turn of wrap on the low-E string when it's up to pitch, which makes them great from whammy...

Re: Favorite Tuner Machines?
I've got a small bin full of Sperzel parts from broken tuners. The 6-inline seem to hold up better than the 3x3's, though. Don't wind the thumb wheel all the way out. When it falls out, the little shaft inside can drop and be lost. That is, if it isn't already frozen in place. When it's frozen in pl...

Re: ECC99 Micro Amp Build Pics
I didn't pay attention to that rectifier because I have a center tapped PT. I used the rectifier design from the Mod 102 kit. (loosely, again) A+ is 185V B+ is 180V My design is not exactly that schematic, but similar. I eliminated the presence control and I'm just running a resistor/cap there. I've...

Re: Need advice on building an amp with tons of clean headroom
That schematic does not specify tube types. I'm guessing it's assumed I would know what they are supposed to be... Let me give it a shot - 12ax7, 12at7, 6l6? ...but scroll down- the layout does. Hahaha.... I feel like a moron now. Didn't realize I was looking at a multi-page PDF file. Well since yo...

Re: ECC99 Micro Amp Build Pics
I am a newbie, and your questions go over my head.
The power section is based mostly on this schematic:

I would love for you to explain what it's doing. This is my 4th build, and I'm just trying to learn all I can and experiment with everything.

ECC99 Micro Amp Build Pics
This was a fun little project I built last week. I was looking at various tiny amps online and thought the ECC99 used as a push-pull power section would be an interesting build. Re: Need advice on building an amp with tons of clean headroom
This is something of an aside, and nothing against any of the afore mentioned circuits. IMHO, Some circuits do produce nice clean tones very well, but some don't feel that great to play and they don't produce familiar tones that many seek( without directly saying so . ) Sometimes these qualities ar...
