As has already been established early in these posts, the "ground" switch now does nothing.

FWIW, I would clip the death cap at the switch side, but leave it soldered to the chassis. I'm not really sure about your transformer question, but this way if the cap is leaky or someday did short it makes it a moot question. Plus, one never knows where the amp may someday end up and possibly plugg...

Only as sure as the documentation provided by Triode, which shows 4,8, and 16.

Measured the other OT taps, less on the 4 ohm lead, more on the 16 ohm lead. So, I guess I am resolved that these two builds are putting out about 10 watts clean, and there it is. They both sound good, so off they go!

Apologies in advance for this... :oops: ...but are you *sure* you're on the 8 ohm tap? Everything looks OK to your power tubes, and that voltage swing would be roughly right for the 4 ohm tap. You know what? I asked myself the same question. I emailed Triode for the spec sheet and according to it, ...

Perhaps one of the preamp stages is clipping prematurely, or your PI is very unbalanced? Use your scope to find out. Also, what is the p-p signal level going into the power tube grids? Looking at the PI. the both sections look about the same at about 50v p-p before clipping, up til about 10 on volu...
