A Rockster Variant Mutant Donster Monster
...Gonna call it "Donster"...hopin' its a monster! It was "going to be" a more standard KT66 Rockster but after all, this is a learning forum for me, and I just couldn't go without some experimentation. I've been collecting parts one at a time over the last year, most of them off the for sale list r...

Re: Express Cathode Bypass Capacitors
It does help...thanks! What I did (first) to get rid of my ice-pick-y issue was install a cut control. That is quite helpful when I have to set master volume down at all, as it gets more and more fizzy. Then before our last gig, I changed the 500pF cap to 360pF...but after running it without the cut...

Re: Express Cathode Bypass Capacitors
Hi Wyan, I've been lurking this thread, and I'm curious about the comment you made early on about the 6PS being better than the 715P's. Can you share what the benefit was to your ears, as I have been considering doing this to my Express clone also. Did it have a smoothing effect, or a midrange shift...

Re: New Trainwreck Inspired 2 channel amp
Dana, Sounds great (then, and now)...can you tell me where James had the volume set to get this level of breakup (and if he had the VVR engaged, about what level of cut). And while I'm at it, is he using the Liverpool side for the rhythm stuff, then the rocket for lead or the other way 'round. In an...

Re: Ultimate Hammond Conversions thread
Well I'm not sure how "much" different it would be from your vox15, but I sure am pleased with the 18watt 2-hole Rocket I built from the AO-43. Its like a Vox that goes to 11... Based on what I measured for the OT in my ao-29, (new to that but pretty sure I got it calculated right) the turns ratio i...

Looks good Richie. Is that a wima box cap on your treble control, or an old domino mica?

Re: Breaking more silence... the painful kind.
Depending on the individual board/forum restrictions, there are *several* like TGP (I don't know what they are there, I'm sure someone here does know) or maybe ax84, heck even Reverb.com etc. where you may be able to post such services under the for sale/trade sections. Craigslist for local consult ...

Re: Bedroom recording a Wreck
Hey Zippy, I'm talking about the phase alignment. You're going to see the mic further out be anywhere from a few milliseconds to 180+ degrees out of phase with the other mic because of the distance between 'em. Your ears and brain will compensate for spatial differences (amazing really) if for examp...

Re: Bedroom recording a Wreck
+1 on what LedZepp said. You have just run into the issues that 90% of us who record at home have to deal with. You want to capture the tone of an amp at its best (which is usually a sweet spot that's pretty cranked up) and, as we all know the wreck is one really loud amp from the get-go. When I'm d...

Re: Gnarly noise problem
Hahah! OK Matt, got it. We are building amps, not baking cakes, yeah? Hey Hans, thanks for the tips, all good ones. These were brand new Beltons, and in my opinion, they might be TOO tight (Just my opinion but these things are very hard to insert/pull tubes from). I did take a look at each pin clip ...
