Re: VVR for a Liverpool
I built a Rocket with VVR. Same circuit as Hall. It should be the same cathode bias as Liverpool. Check out my posts.

Re: New Rocket Build
Rocket is pretty much done. Sounds great. No hum...no fuss..VVR works. NOS GE 12AX7 tubes in first 2 stages. NOS Reflektor Russian EL84's. NOS GE rectifier tube. RJ provided the Transformers. Much tamer than an Express. I eventually wired the VVR out to the standby switch. The standby then goes out ...

Re: New Rocket Build
Thanks Dorrisant! Here's the layout I was going to use. Rocket Layout.jpg Where am I going wrong? Should the standby switch out go to B1+ and choke separately? I found this layout showing the VVR before the standby switch. Seems like the same circuit. LayoutH1d-4VVR-Build.jpg Any help (from anybody)...

New Rocket Build
IMG_0043.JPG New Rocket build with VVR integrated into the filter cap board. Biggest challenge will be mounting power transformer then re-installing VVR/Filter cap board. I can do it! I am not SURE about the placement of VVR in relation to choke. My plan is to place the choke in line with B+ out of...

Re: VVR Tag Board????
VVR Trainwreck.JPG This is my Trainwreck CLONE with the VVR installed. Pot is on back of amp. Wiring snakes along the back of the chassis. No hum. No noise. Works great. I found the Mosfets on ebay. Dual gang pot at Amplified Parts. I added a 2k2 resistor before pin7 on input tube. I believe this w...

Re: VVR Tag Board????
Train.JPG I've attached the pdf of the layout. It has not been checked by anybody so use at your own risk....It works this way for me. The added caps and resistors on input and volume pot are used to fix scratchy pots at low volume.....so they say. I am not an electronics expert, I only wished that...

VVR Tag Board????
I have a pdf layout for point to point fixed bias VVR in a Wreck Express clone. It requires NTE 2372, NTE 2973 Mosfets (I found on Ebay) and a dual 1Meg 1/2 Watt Linear pot to work. It works great in my Wreck clone. I'm cautious to post. What shall I do with it? Not looking to make any profit. Just ...

Re: New Express Completed - Problem with Hum
Have you tried using aluminum flashing as shield over the top. It will hum and pick up radio stations if the enclosure isn't completeley isolated. Try grounding the output jacks to the ground in front of the Big Caps. Try grounding a cap to the input jack (not sure what value)? Mine hummed at first,...

Re: Express build with a soundclip.
All clips were recorded exactly the same. Head on top of speaker. In the beginning (2 years ago) I moved the head off of the speaker, used tube dampers, stuffed foam in the cab, all sorts of things to get rid of rattle. If the head was in the same room as the speaker it rattled. Now I use a NOS Tele...

Re: Express build with a soundclip.
I recorded a Groove Tubes GT12AX7M in my Express and a NOS Telefunken (KCA Nos Tubes) in V1 only. V2 & V3 were not changed and Siemens EL34 were not changed and settings were the same as the first recorded clip but with no reverb added (2nd less compressed). The first 3 notes are the GT12AX7M, chang...

Re: Express build with a soundclip.
Noel, The tube thing for me was "rattle". Tone really had nothing to do with it at the time (tone was certainly improved by using NOS tubes). I used new production tubes, and I heard a tinny rattle on low notes (E,A,D). I always thought it was the amp. I tried NOS tubes (even some NOS tubes rattle) ...

Re: Express build with a soundclip.
M75 65Watt Scumback. The first little bit of the clip was actually through a Celestion Vintage 30 and compressed a bit more. The 2nd longer passage was through the Scumback. New out of the box. Thank you Southbay Ampworks! You could tell...couldn't you.

Express build with a soundclip.
Well, after 2 years. Yep...years, I've finished my Express. Boy did I learn a lot. Mainly....somewhat how to solder, how to bias an amp, how expensive it can really be, and most importantly......TUBES make a huge difference in this amp. This is representative of my re-build. My first build was hexed...
