Re: Hammond AO-32 PT
Thanks for checking in, Phil! I thought it was 1.7 for choke input? I may have been mislead. So actually, this is for a pre-existing amp that the PT is getting far too hot over the coarse of a couple hours, and has mysteriously shed about 30 volts at idle since being built ~4 months ago. Has 6550's ...

Hammond AO-32 PT
Hi Guys. Looking for a little info on this PT, I can't seem to find anything and I know a few of you have some source of old Hammond iron info stored away. This is the AO-32, taken out of a PR-40 tone cabinet. It was sitting on a shelf in the chassis it lived its life up to now in, and I had labeled...

Phil, I'm pretty sure I've some old 6av6's or other types of single triodes I could kick in if you'd like to keep that configuration. I'll shuffle through what I have tonight if you'd like?

Re: New build advice
The one amp I built with choke input is certainly very solid feeling to play, it's very, literal, if that makes sense. It doesn't sag much at all, really. You've got to work for it if you want finesse to come through. That's what I found with mine anyway. It was also pretty heavy on the low end, my ...

Re: Push-on knobs for d-shaft pots?
I have a shoebox full of old knobs of many different styles. Talk to me if you need something in particular, I might have some. Same here, Lou! What flummoxes me, some Fenders need a knob that's 180 degrees opposite the replacements, what to do? If the pots aren't the solder pin type, get in there ...

Re: 4 x KT88 Bass amp
I have a few of these pulled from an organs tone oscillator, generator, somethingoranother.... Red is CT, from it to either leg reads 760mH, I can only assume from leg to leg is ~1.6, my L meter doesn't go that high. CT to black is 99Ohm, CT to blue is 126Ohm, leg to leg is 225Ohm. Why am I t...

Re: Zenith 2550 HiFi Recap and Health Check
Thanks guys! Steve, you make a good point, I didn't notice there was so much on that node. Attached is more or less what I'll be doing for the PSU. This way I can save the JJ 50/50 cap can I was going to use in here for something else and leave the old cap can on the chassis unused. I like that! A l...

Zenith 2550 HiFi Recap and Health Check
Picked up this cool Zenith 2550 Console for a song at the local auction house. Initial idea was to turn it into a guitar amp, of course. Until I got it home, brought it up slow, and it actually sounds quite nice... So I instead decided to pull it from the console and use it as a stand alone HiFi amp...

That looks fantastic, well done! I just have to say that I was quite pleased to read you were looking to get a nice Sennheiser mic instead of the ever-present honk machine known as the SM57... (With all due respect to others who love it, of course.) You're gonna like that mic, good choice! Can't wai...

I Love Love Love builds like these, great job! The antiqued copper looking chickenhead choice is really cool. Also how you left the pencil markings, the Made In USA... There's so much character! (Don't cover that stuff up!)
I'd also be very interested in how it sounds.

Re: Anybody ever do a stereo build?
I also have a Marantz 2230, what a nice unit they are, huh? Good start for the phono preamp considerations mentioned in the link Martin provided. As far as the amp itself, I'd suggest researching the world renown Baby Huey that Gingertube developed. Good luck, have fun! Never had problems with JJ EL...

Re: Gulsekt-88!
So just to finalize the thought on the project scope, here's the last bit of it. It's called the Hell Box, aptly named so for the "output to something" on the schematic, which was dubbed Hell Hole.  It wasn't intended to be used as a stand alone unit, but to mix in with the signal in a ...

Swapped in a few different 6SL7's for the PI... some hummed more than others, but they all hummed. put my hand near the PI tubE and it got mucho worse... i have created a human detector. This may seem elementary, and I haven't read the entire thread here so you may have even already tried this... W...

Re: Little HIFI Speed Build
Thanks! It takes line level, ~2Vp-p. So, Ipod/mp3 player, CD player, phono preamp output (though I haven't tried that yet).. Since I blew the mic input (more than just the sound card apparently) on my laptop doing a test on a circuit, I got a USB to mic/headphone that I plug into it also. Handles it...
