Repurposing old radios as headcabs
I've run across several wooden radios lately that were basket cases. A little gutting and sanding and I've got a pretty neat head cab. The latest is a 5E3 single input into 2 channels, tone control and master volume.

Latest speaker cab
I'm really into the 30s and 40s stuff lately. Here is my take on an early century speaker cab.

Ham/shortwave chassis builds
A friend's dad used to be tv/radio repairman and has quite a stash of old radio parts. He's given me 3 ham radio cages and a couple of wooden radios for amp heads. This one was a Shortwave/AM now housing a 5E3. Blue tubes make it way cool!

Re: Need help with building the right amp ( update)
Just my opinion ...Anyone who don't know exactly which amp they want has no business with a tube amp over 50 watts. I have well over 50 gigging musician friends and not a single one uses over 50w anymore.

That should definitely be converted to a guitar amp post haste!

Re: 5B6 What's it worth?
Sale this week was a Hot Rod Tweed combo $1100. the buyer said shit I've seen kits cost more then that, your giving this away. Tone was the deciding factor he said, not cost. Mark And those kits don't even have that super custom deeeeeluxe pcb with modern easy-lift traces! Every Hotrod Deluxe that ...

Re: 5E3 Cager
I like the handle. And obv, we want to see gut shots! Arched handle from Lowes. I'll try to get gutshot tomorrow. BTW... Every 5E3 should have switched normal/nfb/cathode bypass mod. It turns the so-called one trick pony into three distinctively different amps! Great Ideas on 5E3s here: https://rob...

Re: Dumb Question, Mine Often Are?
Anyone tried one of the Mojo zero loss loops for doing this?
A customer brought one to me for 1987 clone installation but I didn't have a decent speaker cab to give it a good listen and he took it right away.
It did however scope a very clean 10K sine wave into a dummy load.

5E3 Cager
Mark inspired me to try hammond cages.
Tried to make 5E3 PTP small as possible. 6"x10" chassis could still be reduced to 5"x9" easily.
3 way toggle for NFB/cathode bypass/normal.

Re: 5B6 What's it worth?
I've sold 2 5B6s for $650 and $700 respectively. The guy who paid $700 hemmed and hawed at first trying to get me down a bit. I finally told him to listen to the tone carefully and shop elsewhere. Two weeks later he showed up with cash in hand, and didn't bother to dicker. Selling such a classic amp...
