Re: Wiring in some filter caps
I did a rewire on a 50w Red Bear just yesterday to change 6n2p tubes to 12ax7 and a fresh set of 6L6s. It gave the amp quite a bit more headroom but also a bit noisier. I had to look several times before figuring out the filter/bias network. The solder they used has a high lead content which kept fo...

Re: 5D3 Input
1M to ground was cold joint. Why it resulted in that behavior is beyond me but now it works fine!?

Re: Tweed Twin or similar?
[Even 20 year olds bitch amps are too loud. Sigh. I went to a small club to listen to a friend play a 50w plexi that I built for him. During warmup the bass player told him to turn it down because he was drowning the bass and other guitar out. He told the bass player to screw himself and to turn up...

5D3 Input
When adjusting guitar volume from 1 to 8 it works but only slightly, and 9 to 10 I get 80% increase in gain. Different guitar yields the same result. Both guitars work correctly on all other amps. The tone is amazing, especially when pushed by Tube Screamer set as clean boost. The problem is that I ...

Re: POD MULE
Thanks Mark. That's the 100w version of how I envisioned to the input into the power amp but was unsure about need for ground reference or grid stopper or coupling capacitor.M Fowler wrote:Without effects loop.

Re: POD MULE
No need for another stage. Pods have way more output than any previous tube stages. Simply build everything from the PI input to the output jack. In 1987 plexi, is the PI grid referencing ground through LTP/Presence pot or do I need to add a 1m and grid stopper also before it? Maybe I might need a ...

POD MULE
A friend of mine has asked me to build a 50w power amp to run his Line6 pod into. I was thinking of 1987 type power amp without preamp or tone stack coloring his pod tone(just presence control maybe). I am unsure on input to PI design and any help would be appreciated.

Re: New Sozo caps
Although Izotope is not the best way to measure......Its sure better than huma ears. Please explain why its wrong to look at reality of the general output of what people incessantly argue over ???. Because I can only hear an amp with my ears so I don't give a rat's ass about other methods of measur...

Re: How do you "burn-in" your builds?
How do you "burn-in" your builds? Throw a party and let 'em rip. ^What Mark said I believe that rock-n-rolling guitar amps should be broken in like they're gonna be played, hard and loud with a guitar...not long and soft with a signal generator. I assume that a customer will turn it to 10 and play ...

Re: Royal MSG100 Demo Jimmy Page 73-75 Tone
Looks like another drive by. Yes, aged chassis with all the original holes that aren't used or needed. These things are important. And you have to put an Echoplex in front of it recreate the tone. I can put an EP in front of ALOT of amps and get close to those tones without much effort. The ...
