Re: Can We Discuss Major Pigs?
I built a shrunken version of one years ago as I was more interested in the preamp sounds than the power. 2xKT66 instead of 4xKT88 and called it the Piglet. https://live.staticflickr.com/4400/35599269803_628cc2771b_c.jpg https://live.staticflickr.com/4429/36407061325_e682cfe81f_c.jpg Very Cool! Re: Can We Discuss Major Pigs?
The Pig had tremendous voltage. Over 700 and the poor screens melted. Majors don't have a lot less. UL supply is end of the line. Melted screens ahead. Modern tubes need not apply. (that is why about one of ten still operates with original transformers) The 6550 exports are still extant in much lar...

Can We Discuss Major Pigs?
I have recently stumbled upon some discussions about Marshall Majors and a few references to the model referred to as "The Pig" and am left with some confusions. While there are schematics available for the slightly more normal, two channel versions, but only one available schematic (and redrawn for...

MagnaTone? Anyone?
Hey Folks, Just spit ballin' here. I've become enamored with the concept of the Magnatone stereo amps with selectable frequency/amplitude modulation. These would be the "Twilighter Stereo" at 22 watts per side and the "Panoramic Stereo" at 12 watts per side. I'm thinking that in today's "volume limi...

Re: Heyboer PT problems...
I have a couple questions/requests:
> Can we see a wiring diagram for the transformer?
> Which transformer wire is actually connected to the chassis, or is the only ground connection through the frame of said transformer?
Just Curious?

Re: UPS Follow My Delivery
Put you have to pay competent people competitive wages to have that kind of efficiency. <rant> And this, in a nutshell is the core of what's wrong in the USA right now. Corporations value profit over humans, and our entire political system is built around protecting corporations and their profits. ...

Classic Tone/Magnetic Components Closing?
Hey Folks, I just read a rumor that Classic Tone/Magnetic Components is closing down operations. I've sent them an email asking if they are simply restructuring or indeed going out of business. Has anyone here heard about any of this? Here's a link to the discussion about it, over at the Marshall fo...

Re: Fixed and cathode bias at the same time
I have a friend who is the original owner of a Marshall 4001/Studio 15. Fantastic sounding little amp! Its got that Marshall, mid range growl with that Fender "clarity" provided by the 6V6 tubes. I've played through it a bunch! I think what made them not sell was the lack of reverb and/or effects lo...

Re: Please Help Me Understand?
It seems like you have a handle on what's going on there. It's just a matter of figuring out the jack/switching arrangement. I would add grid stop resistors. There's not a whole lot of advantage to running parallel triodes. You'll get some gain boost and less noise. Thanks for that. I think I've go...

Please Help Me Understand?
Please help me understand what is going on here? Twin-5E8-A-Inputs jpeg.jpg Let's first look at the upper channel inputs. Obviously there are no grid stoppers, only grid leaks. My take on the inputs is that if I plug into input #1, it parallels the grid leaks to ground for an overall effective 500kΩ...

Re: Using silicon to glue down components
Might I suggest the highest temp hot glue available? You're merely striving to create a "pad" to eliminate movement/vibration and hot glue will stay put and hold it's shape, yet is quickly and easily removed when necessary. It does not really adhere very well to non-porous stuff. On the other hand, ...

Re: Which Choke?
Thanks folks for all the input! That one looks pretty darned close, but I think I might go for the actual Hammond unit below, though it may in fact be the same unit, without labeling? I don't want the current capability to be too high and stiffen the supply too harshly. This 90mA one may be pretty O...

Re: Incestuous Marriage?
Reminds me of a quickie I drew up. https://i.imgur.com/680LqsK.png?1 Interesting concept of two different, selectable tone stacks! Kinda looks like a JCM800 (with selectable stacks) driving a 5E3 deluxe PI/power section. Definitely looks like Brother/Daddy had some fun with Mama/Sister or Auntie/Co...
