Anybody Ever Do Business Here?
Hey All, Anyone ever do business with this company? http://www.mableaudio.com/en/productview-848_5E3+cabinet.html By the time you buy all the materials and smoke a router bit or two, that's a pretty attractive price, even if it ends up being plywood instead of solid pine. One downside is that it doe...

Re: Walnut/Maple AX84 Cab
Now you know how I feel when I hear you guys play(hence my nickname) Its done with a router and Leigh jig. Made the front panel today from some birdseye maple. Still deciding on theme and font for faceplate. John John, If you spent a similar amount of time and effort on "practicing" guitar playing ...

Re: Field Coil Speakers?
I have a Hammond PA and 12" here that someone brought to me just a couple of days ago... I don't know what it is yet. Been contemplating the Fluxtone idea for a few years now. I'm thinking a VVR controlling the coil voltage would work just fine. Pulling up a chair for this discussion. Tony Wow Tony...

Re: Field Coil Speakers?
I looked through the Fluxtone link and it's a clever modern use of an old technology, hats off to him for trying. If it sounds good and works well then it's very clever. I agree there R&D there, he offers a lot of modern speaker variations (A field coil V30 is something I'd never thought I'd see). ...

Re: Field Coil Speakers?
Well Guys, From my somewhat limited understanding of how they work, it seems they are indeed/usually DC powered. From my research, they typically get powered from either one of the "nodes" of the B+ or on a separate node of their own. My thinking is that it should not be necessary to rewind or repla...

Field Coil Speakers?
I did a search here and only found brief discussions and some references to FluxTone http://fluxtonespeakers.com and I am truly intrigued by the concept! Unfortunately the FluxTone products are outrageously priced. It really doesn't seem that kind of price is truly warranted except for possible quic...

Re: Slanted Cabinets
An interesting tid bit here is that the 4x10 1965A Marshall cabs have all 4 speakers on the same plane as described by Littlewyan on that Peavey cab.

Re: I'm Filled With The Need to Build!?
Well Sir, I'm fairly familiar with the Hall, SkipzCircuits, Granger, Trinity and London stuff. My main hesitance surrounds what seems to be a high incidence of failure of the MosFets. There is certainly the possibility that I've misinterpreted the failures and that they were actually caused by impro...

Re: I'm Filled With The Need to Build!?
Thanks for the replies guys! I decided to at least go with a MojoTone chassis (on sale today $49) along with their 4/8/16 ohm output transformer, free shipping on all, as I regularly use different speaker setups in 8 & 16 ohms. Phil S. Yep that is why I'm leaning toward building it in a cosmetically...

I'm Filled With The Need to Build!?
Hi Folks, Well after having two fairly successful builds (one kit and one scratch) under my belt, I find myself hopelessly addicted and feel the uncontrollable need to fire up my needle/soldering iron! :P I keep reading regularly about the magic of the "Tweed Deluxe" and the only way I will ever be ...

Re: My first successful scratch build!
And, Oh Yeah,
Why go through all the hassle/aggravation/etc. to swap it to a different chassis? I think it looks great, as is and a nice set of face/rear panels will certainly disguise/cover a lot of sins!

Re: My first successful scratch build!
gui_tarzan,
Please excuse and relieve a newb's confusion/curiosity. How does that work out to being a 5F6A with only 2 12AX7's? Did you cascade V1a & V1b? I see that you provided 2 extra sockets for future experimentation.
Just Curious,
Gene

Re: How To Bias A DSL5C?
Hey Folks, I hope I didn't confuse things here by mentioning the Blackstar amp. The Blackstar does indeed have two trim pots and apparently one is for balance and the other is for bias. I can't find a schematic for it either. My questions are about the Marshall DSL5C, which is a bit different than t...

Re: How To Bias A DSL5C?
Matt, On this amp both cathodes are tied together to a common 10 ohm/1 watt resistor to ground. Remember this is a single 12BH7/dual triode used in a push/pull configuration. The only other commercially made amp I've found using this configuration is Blackstar HT5 series and there is much debate and...
