Re: JTM45 Power Transformer
For general information, I am pretty sure that IG Ingo Gorges stopped making transformers as of the end of 2013. He wanted to concentrate on other interests. I bought some of the last of the 45 PTs in December 2013. The site looks to be dormant and the "Expected in 4 up to 6 weeks again" could be mi...

Re: Princeton 6G2 dead tremolo
This type is called a phase shift oscillator. There are lots of good old texts out there, but try this one which is more for guitar amp use: Designing Phase Shift Oscillators for Tremolo Circuits by Aiken. As already stated above in previous posts 1. You need a strong 12AX7 2. The phase shift cap va...

Re: Vintage tweed amp pics
I like this one, it's got a little door where you can shovel in coal. Ha! I found one of those in Germany of all places. There's a nice copper chassis behind the coal bunker door. In this one, someone managed to cram an extra stage in there. I guess that way, the whole band could run through it. He...

Re: motor boating on a twin
No, your not supposed to jump connections or short anything. Insulate the metal part so you don't get sparks flying or zap yourself. I found this trick by chance and have never read about it, but it makes some sense: if you have two stages somehow coupling due to proximity (bad lead dress) a metal o...

Re: motor boating on a twin
I had exactly that situation after recapping a British amp that is fairly similar to the twin reverb. Both channels. Like yours, one could actually dial the controls in to vary put-putting, like a mad early teutonic synth. Also mostly gain and bass related. It was the reverb circuit coupling to a pr...

Re: Bought my first ever Gibson
The S/H LP looks tasty, but. At three grand GBP you should be able to find an original SG Junior from the early sixties. Just saying. One of the very first ones, with the Les Paul logo, is my no.1 since well over thirty years. Cost me 365 quid and I could not afford to eat properly for a few months....

Re: Full Length AC30 Tagstrip
Thanks. Yes, that seller has been coming up with some excellent products recently.
I ordered a couple of chassis from him quite a while back. Good to see the range developing into untapped niches.
Still some hope in the bay.

I agree that level of mV DC is tolerable for now.

Re: Rocket Reservoir Cap
Back when I rolled a couple of rockets I searched and read the wealth of discussion here. My take on it is that the maximum ratings are (taking a look at the data sheet for this and other tube rectfiers) for maximum use conditions. I don't see the Rocket circuit as being too demanding for the GZ34, ...

Update: The osillator kicks in now. Sounds really good. May bench is up in the attic. My girlfriend heard the vibes emanating from all around and shaking the desk. She said she thought her Mac was blowing up or something! Summary in case anyone else delves into one of these: 1. I used cap and ...

Lou, I think there was an update this week.
I read too many reports of midi trouble to risk Yosemite yet.

Stevem, slow is good. I'm going to look at that 73k across the intensity again. Pretty sure I noted the value wrong anyway. Sluckey, the Scrapbook is great and and I have read that trem part before, but it was another lifetime. Thank you for the reminder. I have good signal at the Modulator stage bu...

(... end of tunnel, now in Germany + changed cell card in the i-thingy) But, I cannot for the life of me get the harmonic vibrato to kick in. Trying to read up in old RCA publications etc on oscillators, but it is not sinking in to my wooden head yet. I was able to call out a few corrections to Bob'...

Re: 6G7A Bandmaster blonde export version '61
I made a false assumption and should have had my glasses on looking at that German ERO cap at the PI Entrance. Those are usually solid and don't leak DC. This one was virtually a complete DC short. Plus it was. 0,10uF, maybe a Bassplayer mod. Changed that out with a 0,01 sozo for now. I think that w...
