Re: Switching speakers on the same amp in real time

Thank you for that offer Tony. That sounds like it may be in line with RG's mention of having a big Mosfet across the secondary and go into a low impedance conduction during the switching of the relays. I will definitely call on you if I'm not having any luck with my little crazy idea. Digikey just...

Re: Switching speakers on the same amp in real time

Palmer made a 4 way speaker switcher for tube guitar amps. I have one, but forget the name. I used it for trying out different speakers for myself on quite large amps running quads of old KT77s. The basic principle was the output was muted for maybe a second between relays switching the speakers. Th...

Re: That's too damned high!

a question from one of the back seat rows:
does this choke need to be a swining choke?

Or is a Marshall so weedy that it doesn't matter?

Re: Hide the new electrolytics?

I plead guilty.
But I don't remember which old blond or tweed Fender amp I did it on.
New FTs caps slid into the old sleeves perfectly, so why not?
Was it very naughty?

Re: Warning notice: isopropyl alcool

My understanding is that the risk is in manufacture. Not in normal usage.
But as a mere user, I stand to be corrected.

Re: Stand-alone tube preamps

megatrav, in a pedal enclosure the layout of the components will be much more crampt than in a typical guitar amp. The use of miniature tubes helps a liitle bit. But at high gain, I would expect sqealing and oscillation. The most sensitive parts of the circuit will begin to pick up the signal from a...

Re: Need some advice from the experts: Shower Remodel

I'd like to offer some tips; I have about 500 hotel bathrooms to construct or renovate each year. The USA construction techniques, standards and terminolgy are quite different to ours in Germany. But basicly the principles are the same. Green Board, I assume to be plasterboard impregnated for use in...

Re: Tell about your isolation projects

I am not in isolation,
I'm in construction.
Spare time is a long lost old friend.

But today I found a moment to rack a pair of W.E. REP coils.
They are like a couple of pints of Guiness at the end of a tough week.

Stay safe, everyone.

Re: Has anyone any experience with Burman amps?

Sounds right to me.
I couldn't hear any issues with the bass on either clip.
Leave the chassis in for now and play it some. Report back if it gets funky.

Re: Has anyone any experience with Burman amps?

CV492 was a military grade ECC83 selected for low microphonics and mechanical stability. May be good, may be a wet blanket, may be so strong that it opens a new can of worms. Put one of your original Mazdas in V2, even if it is tired. That would be my first move. I understand you liked the compresse...

Re: Has anyone any experience with Burman amps?

Yes, Tracy is the Chief. Here's a few simple suggestions that spring to mind due to how you push the first section with Gain 2: Did you move the wire-dress on V2? It is very close to the Reverb send/return plug which could be making things funky. Do you have the tube screen can fitted to V2? What br...

Re: Has anyone any experience with Burman amps?

Late to chime in, Tracy' said it all and more, follow his advice. but I'd add that I never liked Gain 2 beyond about three on the 2x KT77 amps and never above five (noon) on the quad KT77 models. Never had any of these fart out on low notes, but always roll bass right down with a six string. The low...

Re: Soho5879

The OT I used on a cook up like this was made by Ingo Georges in Germany. Sadly they are no longer in production, so this post is not of much use. His OTs were supposed to be really close in materials and windings to the original RS ones. There was quite a long wait and it arrived the night before I...

Re: Favourite NOS tubes?

Cannot help with the test numbers. It is all mumbo jumbo to me. Mazda? I have amassed an unhealthy amount of NOS Mazda pre amp tubes. True French Mazda preamp tubes were mostly green boxed. I have some with silver metalwork inside. But most of mine are blue boxed, looking and sounding to me like RFT...
