Re: A Trainwreck, Sound Engineers worst nightmare?

Paulster, It is interesting to get that perspective. but in the case of two 100 heads that is hardly comparable to an express, so to suggest that because he uses plexi deflectors to control stage volume is because he feels his tone should be compromised for the benefit of the mix is a bit of a stret...

Re: A Trainwreck, Sound Engineers worst nightmare?

All fair points...if the guitarist is the sort who likes to play through a nice modeling amp where the volume knob is a volume knob but ... ...we all know here that the volume knob on a tube guitar amp has very little impact on the actual sound level and in fact to turn it down to the range where it...

Re: A Trainwreck, Sound Engineers worst nightmare?

If it's Rock it supposed to be loud especially the guitar... The best tone is the Amp turned up where it is supposed to be. Anything the "sound guy" does to the guitar in the mix is a compromise and needs to be minimized accept in venues where the amp is not loud enough. If you are playing venues th...

Re: Beating a dead horse no last time...

The "voicing" is a sum of parts thing... which includes the components of the guitar, playing style of the player and the "ear" of the listener...far too many variables to think tubes or caps are the only factor. Ken may very well have had a certain sound he wanted his amps to achieve from a certain...

If they are 7189a's there is a pin difference, but 7189(no a) will be a direct replacement.

Re: Where to get circuit board meterial?

I'm thinking of using a scrap of Formica that I have left over from my kitchen counter top. :D It looks like green granite. 8) I haven't pulled it down from where I have it stored yet, it may be too thin to use. I have built many amps with formica scraps and they work very well with eyelets (I buy ...

Re: New Liverpool Done!

Thanks Dana,

That explains it, the schems and layouts in the files section show the same 9k1's as the express (at least some of them do).

Re: New Liverpool Done!

In the photo it apears that the 4 dropping resitors in the power supply are 10K (2 series for 20k) as opposed to 9k1 is this right? I know it less than a 10% difference so it would make sense that it works fine.

Re: New Liverpool Done!

Allyn,

Did you find that using 10K resistors in the power section made much of a difference?

I have a stock of 10k's but am reluctant to use them.

Re: EXPRESS or LIVERPOOL?

Allynmey,

Is the express tamed much/well with 6v6's? ...Or could it be used effectively in smaller clubs with 6v6's?
