Re: Next up, grill cover

When I have tried stapling piping, my stapler wants to push the piping out of place. In other words, I can't shoot staples close enough to the piping to avoid pushing it out of place as I staple. Advice? Hi, I use a Dewalt powered stapler and I let the rounder part of the piping roll over the front...

Re: Next up, grill cover

Thanks Martin, Bill and Guy for your responses. They were helpful. I just finished the grill cover and piping. I'm very happy with the look of my grill cover. However, I'm a little disappointed in my piping job. I didn't find any good tutorials on installing that. Hi, the secret to piping is to cut...

Re: SSS CF Driver Compression Questions

I believe the Mhartman version of the SSS has the mixer tube that mixes the clean and reverb signals like the JM Signature clone. I wonder if changing this can get you what you want. The #005 SSS does not use that method of mixing the clean with the reverb and it has lots of gain on tap. You can lis...

Re: SSS CF Driver Compression Questions

A part of the compression is coming from the LNFB loops. Especially when you drive the first volume pot a little more. Not all SSS are the same as are the LNFB loops. Which one do you have? Erwin My build is adapted slightly from MHarman's Layout which I believe is based on #004. So I see that I di...

Re: Next up, grill cover

I just completed the tolex job on my first speaker cab. Now I just need to do the speaker grill. I'd like to make it look like the attached image. Does anyone know the name of this type of grill material and where to buy it. Also, what is the white part called? Binding? Hi, here is the grill cloth ...

Re: SSS CF Driver Compression Questions

I like how it sounds when the Phase Inverter and CF plates are around 240v. This was with SSS #005. That's a good point about the Master Volume. I never experimented with that. I will test that out when I have another one finished later in the year. Happy Easter and Happy Holidays! Guy Happy Easter...

Re: SSS CF Driver Compression Questions

I have found that adjusting the voltages on the Phase Inverter and the CF plates can effect the level of compression. Try lowering them and see if it gets you what you want. Cheers G OK, thanks! I was wondering about something like that. What sorts of voltages did you end up settling on? Did you al...

Re: Two Rock Classic Reverb Signature Schematic (Current Version)

And I've found Studio Signature's detailed guts which is supposed to be 35 watt version of the amp(minus rock jazz switch, tonestack bypass and fet). Don't know if it is true or not but this one can probably help too. The mixing tube wiring on this Studio signature looks a little different than the...

Re: New Project

No problem, it's all good input! Sounds good, too. Interesting you had success with a 6L6, what with its need for more drive voltage than an EL84 or 6V6. Thanks Martin, its my friend Kyle playing the amp. I would like to turn back the clock to being that young again LOL. I was thinking the same thi...

Re: New Project

Excellent! I had forgotten all about that. I have the schematic Colossal drew up, which has some good ideas. Matt drives an EL84 directly, where I'm planning on a 6V6. I want to ditch the preamp out/power amp in, and take a line out from the output transformer. That will be driving either a resisti...

Re: Lowering B+ on Single ended amp with Choke input

Thanks everyone for all the great info here on this subject. I have grown very found of Single Ended amps lately and have built several ODS style circuits in single ended format, both high plate and low plate and really enjoyed the sound. I was pleasantly surprised! Its interesting how less seems to...

Lowering B+ on Single ended amp with Choke input

I came across this interesting idea for lowering B+ on a Single Ended amp that has a choke input. It was used by a gentleman named Gordon Rankin in his Cardinal amps. I would use it for guitar amps. DropB.JPG He used a small input cap before a choke, you have to experiment to get the right voltage d...

Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)

Last step required to manage gain was to replace both 12AX7s with 12AT7s. Very happy now. Playing thru an EVM12S. Amp can be way too bright—can't turn on bright switch, and Presence is too much. But tone stack controls are really responsive. This demo is recorded with: Treble 3, Mid 3, Bass 5. This...

Re: 2024 Monkeymatic Liverpool (nontraditional)

Great looking chassis Christian! I have been using the LND150 as the first stage in several of my amps and I did not need any extra Cap between the Input Jack and the LND150 to tame any noise. I have been using these LND150 jacks from Granger and they are quiet as a mouse. I order them with a 25K or...
