Re: ****Site Problems Update****

I ran a search on virustotal.com both on April 17 and again today, just to see what could be found. It looks like 3 out of 67 malware reporting sites are reporting a problem. I don't know what it means exactly...

Re: Gibson EH-150 with a loud hum -- Need some help

As Phil said, with V2 out of the circuit, only the instrument channel is affected and the mic channel is still intact. Also, following your suggestion Phil, I went back and disconnected the .1uF and the .00075uF, first one and then the other (on the V2 side) and the hum did not change. I'm going to ...

Re: Gibson EH-150 with a loud hum -- Need some help

Thank you all for the suggestions. I've tried them all and so far, nothing has changed. In answer to Stevem's questions, all of the original caps were completely lifted out of the circuit and new caps were jumpered in. Also, there is no measurable ripple on any of the first gain stage plate load res...

Re: Gibson EH-150 with a loud hum -- Need some help

Hi Phil, thanks for the question. I pulled V2 and the mic channel still behaves as I described it: first the hum increases, then nulls out around volume 4 or 5. Past 5, then it increases with the volume control (being amplified) and gets louder. With V1 and V2 both pulled, the mic volume control sti...

Gibson EH-150 with a loud hum -- Need some help

I have a 1942 Gibson EH-150, the last version with the EH-185 circuit. I haven't used it for a while, so a few days ago I decided to get it going again. I did a soft start using a variac and a light bulb limiter, and while the amp was working fine the last time I used it, it now has quite a loud 120...

Re: Rocket goes silent after 10 minutes

Does the whole amp go quiet, or can you maybe hear the sound of the output tubes through the speaker? If you can check it with an ammeter, does the mains idle current stay the same both before and after it goes silent?

Re: Marshall Amp Covers: When were these made?

Thanks for all of your information. I didn't know the logo was moved from the corner to the center around 1974. I wonder if the move was made at the same time they went from turret boards to printed circuit boards. I'm not quite sure what you meant by "covers for cabinets" unless you meant head cabi...

Re: Marshall Amp Covers: When were these made?

I thought I would give this one more try and hopefully someone might have some information about what era these Marshall covers are from. I hope my asking does not cross any lines regarding forum etiquette...

Thanks again for any information,

Marshall Amp Covers: When were these made?

I've been going through some of my excess amp stuff recently -- trying to thin the herd to fund a new build I have in mind-- and I discovered these two Marshall amp covers. Does anyone know what era they are from? I've had a few Marshalls through the years, but most of you around here know a lot mor...

Re: No bidding wars allowed!

Does anyone know what the "Ultraphonix voice preamp" might refer to? I've seen it for modified Fenders and Marshalls, but this is the first time I've seen it used to describe an Overdrive Special preamp.

"Ultraphonix voice preamp, and it has the Tone Blossom power section."

Thanks, LDC

Re: Again - please, web master, fix the attack site stuff

I don't know if this is helpful or not, but I'm using a PC with Comodo Internet Security Premium (the free one). The browser is Seamonkey 2.38, and I also have Adblock Plus installed. So far, there have been no problems at all getting onto this site - No messages, no warnings, No nothing, It's not a...

What is the silver cylindrical device located top left?

Tom, I mentioned it when I posted those pictures, but forgot to say what it looked like. The amp has a transformer coupled, passive effects loop, that JK told me was not part of the original amp and had been installed by someone else. The silver canister in the upper left corner of the JimKelley-05 ...

Re: Jim kelly single channel layout ?

Here are some photos af an original Jim Kelley single channel with no reverb that I used to own. It was a great sounding amp, but seriously loud. On the bench, it measured 59 watts into 8 Ohms. It has a transformer coupled passive effects loop that JK told me had been installed by someone else. LDC

Re: detuned cabinets

Standel made a cabinet based on a similar idea back in the late 1950's - early 1960's.
