My approach would be to take on something like the ampmaker steel chassis: http://www.ampmaker.com/store/Punched-chassis-1x8-and-7x9.html Then take a step cutter to the holes you need to adjust for octal basess and the can cap. Not sure how on a stock chassis like that you are supposed to mount the ...

And like Jana said, the Univibe had an effect. Those weren't true bypass, so it would have affected his signal even if it wasn't on. Likewise the Crybaby, and not forgetting the strings were in reverse order over the pick up pole magnets. But to paraphase Mr. E Clapton, "it's all in the fingering".

Losing a tube or reusing two.

Truth be told I'll likely never run it loud enough for the output tubes to get really distorted. I'll be running it clean mostly, just as it's barely breaking up. And silly question--if I got rid of the normal channel on this amp, would I free up an extra tube? Yes you would free up a tube, however...
