Re: HV switch from 300V to 260V

putting some high voltage caps (.01-.005u 2kV) across the switch contacts to reduce/prevent contact arcing might help too.

Re: Ground buzz - Driving me crazy

does it buzz more with your hand off the strings/bridge of your gibson? I presume yes as I have the same issues with my Les Paul on some amps. Gibson does a poor job of grounding the bridge. Much easier on a fender style. On same guitars they just don't even bother doing it... hit and miss I've found.

Alternative

I found this helpful... http://el34world.com/charts/grounds.htm Basically you don't want to connect all the ground points on the same rail as it will increase noise. You take individual sections of the amp and ground the to 1 main point on the chassis but you do so independently not just in one big ...

PT

thanks for the update Carl. Do you think a 272DX PT would work well in this build? slightly off from the ceriatone PT you used but close... How much current do you think the choke needs to be able to handle as built? should 150ma be sufficient? Also do you have your last schematic revision available...

also what program are you using to draw up the .sch files? I've been editing mine from existing schematics via photoshop which is a pain.

Edit: Found the answer on accident. ExpressSCH if anyone else was curious.

Thanks!

AC

just wanted to say this thread is bad ass. Thanks for updating it! :-)

Are you using AC heaters for all tubes? any hum issues with the non-self balanced 6SL7's?

testing

Mr. Aiken is speaking in terms of bench testing an amp to confirm power outbut, frequency response etc. In that instance yes Resistive is best for the reasons he mentioned. Yes you are still cranking the hell out of your amp but you are doing that regardless, things are going to wear. When actually ...
