Re: Bassman bias balance pot dilemma
Back on the strat shielding, anybody used an aluminum under-guard like this one? http://www.guitarfetish.com/Aluminum-St ... _p_90.html Seems relatively cheap and easy as can be.

Re: Fender Sleeper Amp? Brown Deluxe!
Although there are differences, there are also some very similar things as in looking at an 18 watt marshall. I always think of the 6G3 deluxe,as the American version of an Marshall 18 watter. Very true. I've toyed with building a 6G3 in an off-the-shelf 18 watt chassis and cab. Just drill bigger ho...

Re: Anyone rolled their own simul class power section?
I'm really just trying to get related-ish feedback to gather ideas. At some point I'm going to get around to building a dedicated power amp for my Boogie Quad preamp, so probing what to appropriate from a Simul Class (but at lower power output) was kind of natural. I'm playing with the idea of doing...

Re: Fender Sleeper Amp? Brown Deluxe!
Both great. Princeton generally comes off a bit sweeter, Deluxe angrier. The Deluxe can come off pretty Marshally for a little Fender combo.
BTW, there's pretty small difference between the 6G2 Princeton and the tweed Vibrolux besides the cabinet.

Re: Anyone rolled their own simul class power section?
Back to the RDH, then. (But it's so damned heavy!)
At SLO Clones, some are of the theory that Boogie used undersized output iron for their 2:90, something like a Marshall 50 watt OT but with a slightly bigger lam stack. They've measured the taps as indiscernible from standard P-P iron.

Anyone rolled their own simul class power section?
For the legally squeamish, I gather that it's nigh impossible to violate the patent since the actual Boogie products on the market don't meet the patent description.

Re: Any low profile transformers for 1U rackmounting?
Holy schnikes that stuff's expensive. I could build the whole amp at 2U for the cost of one of those OT's and maybe find a deal on an ABS rack for it and the Quad. Maybe this is part of why there aren't more 1u tube power amps.

Any low profile transformers for 1U rackmounting?
I want to build a little 6005w power amp to go with my Boogie Quad preamp. The Quad is a beast, but my power needs are low so a small power amp would be nice. Horizontally mounting the sockets could make small bottle power tubes work dandy in a 1U rack case. The hitch is that most of the conventiona...

Re: Twisted Tweed Bassman
FWIW, THD's old "Plexi" model was basically a mashup of 5F6a and early Marshall in the 4x10 combo case. I think there might have been a particular Marshall he was chasing that was in the inventory of SIR or another rental house. It's maybe odd to chase a Marshall sound in a 4x10 combo unless you bel...

Re: Dumble Standalone Preamp
Just yesterday I had the flash of doing two clean pre's, one a classic, one a Skyliner, into a shared power amp, kinda like a Bassman head. You might consider the Boogie Quad preamp for the idea of two different preamps each with their own overdrive section. That includes how people run them. A lot ...

Thanks Mark,I see 5150 cabs from time to time didn't know if they were any good. Damn nice amps. Bet you don't have to worry about competing with the drummer in there. All the reports I've heard are that the Peavey 5150 cabs are themselves solid. The speakers are the only place people complain that...

Re: GFS kits and parts (get yer wallets out!)
I'd Tru-Oil the neck and do a hard finish on the body. I've liked using shellac on non-music-instrument projects before -- easy to work with, easy to repair. If you use Bullseye, only use the sealer stuff. The normal Bullseye has additives that slow curing and make it go on thicker. You'll get a bet...

Re: Callaham Strat Hardware
Anyone got a highly recommended affordable six-screw vintage-style stat trem for import spacing (10.5mm) mounting? I've got a Fernandes with a cheapo skinny trem block that the arm doesn't screw into. (The guitar is actually pretty damned nice for the $80 I paid, but working trem would definitely en...
