Re: Steel String Singer Layouts/Schematics

Yes, do 002, pretty pretty please. I'm not all about historical accuracy myself. I would do the Manning filters and the Manning bipolar power supply for the CF driver. It can be The Amp Garage SSS 002. And what about the accuracy of the 100K volume pot? I tried that in a none SSS amp and the bright ...

Re: Steel String Singer question

Thanks talbany for that treble cut suggestion to my AB763 type build. Just to note, the snubbers on the gain stages weren't to remedy the extended treble. Those were in my design before the amp was assembled. I put them on there to prevent any high frequency oscillation. Instead of using snubbers I'...

Re: Steel String Singer question

Talbany wrote, "So my question is why are you adding snubbers to the driver circuit. With this feature having such a large impact on the overall sound of the amp your trying to copy, why modify it? If it's too bright just switch down the Hi Filters." I didn't put any snubbers on the driver. They are ...

Re: Steel String Singer question

Thanks Tony. I have been leaning towards 002 for a while, but it would be nice to know how many tubes SRV's had. Out of all the demos I have ever heard the 002 sounds more like SRV's silverface to me. The Sebago Texas Flood and the TAG builds. Also, mhartman's sounds good too, with his LNFB changes....

Re: Steel String Singer question

I'm after the SRV silverface SSS tone. How many preamp tubes did SRV's silverface SSS have? I read mention of a picture of the rear of his SSS, but I don't know where this picture is. I need to know how many reverb mixer tubes it had.

Re: Steel String Singer question

Martin, the bipolar supply link is added. I'll read that when I have time. As for the amp name. My son lost my tape. I started to hang something over it, but I thought that would look goofy. I don't have any experience with an SSS type amp with or without CF, but I do a single channel AB763 with MOS...

Re: Steel String Singer question

Martin, I added dreric's build to my post on page 1 and I added your step filter correction link too. I'll try to keep adding to my post on page 1 so the moderators can decide what to do with the info. As for my own future build. I have a few SSS type amps planned. I have several custom Heyboer powe...

Re: Steel String Singer question

I agree. I'll keep adding what I can find to the post with the edit feature until there are sufficient links to start a new thread for stickying. And others feel free to search. I'm a blind guy (not black blind, but I only have light perception and some motion perception), believe it or not. I can s...

Re: Steel String Singer question

SSS Collection of schematics, layouts and TAG member builds. Here is the SSS 002. I don't know if it is the latest version. The first post says to refer to page 3. So here is page 3. https://ampgarage.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=19049&start=30 Here is another of SSS002. https://ampgarage.com/forum...

Re: Steel String Singer question

I agree, there should be a sticky for the SSS models. Not just for 002 and 004, but also member builds like mhartman, etc... Also, include layouts with the schematic where they exist.

Re: My take on an SSS

Nice work mhartman. Not picking on you below because you followed Howard's design. Shouldn't the negative voltage at the cathode of the CF between the PI and output tubes have at least three times the negative bias voltage for proper class AB2 operation? I know another power supply would need to be ...

Re: Adding Presence Control to Deluxe Reverb

What method did you use for the presence? I really like Rob's idea. I haven't tried it, but I like his idea and how it compensates for the PI tail too.

Re: Adding Presence Control to Deluxe Reverb

Unlike the original poster, I want to be able to add bite and pinch to the treble. So I want a presence control on a blackface style amp. I'm not the smartest guy, but Rob's suggestion appears the best to me because it is tried and true in the Bassman. So in a Deluxe: The 22K PI tail is reduced by 4...

Toshiba 2SC4793 transistor vs NTE 2648 transistor

Hello fellows, the Toshiba 2SC4793 is no longer made. At least that is what I have concluded. No retailers have it other than eBay sellers, and I don't know if I should trust them.

I crossed the Toshiba 2SC4793 to the NTE 2648. Does anyone have any experience with the NTE part?
