Re: Cleaning up an Express' act

Just to chip back in on this thread, I've continued to mess around with tubes since I originally posted on this and currently I'm most happy with X7s in 1 & 2 a black plate T7 in the PI - retains all the harmonic richness, slightly better balanced to my pick attack (personal pref) and cleans up even ...

Re: Cleaning up an Express' act

Just to come back on this thread having done some experimentation. I've not changed any component values, but I've go though a number of valves and valve types in different positions I've actually got to a very playable Tele sound, with more headroom and still retaining the dynamics I love, so I tho...

Re: Cleaning up an Express' act

Fantastic - thanks!

I'll try running a 100k resistor across there in parallel as a reversible test

Re: Cleaning up an Express' act

Thanks Colossal,

I'm still learning my way around the board, so you'll have to forgive my ignorance - I'm assuming the '10k 'stage is one of the 3 preamp stages, but I don't know which? ..assume the 3rd?

Cleaning up an Express' act

I love my Express clone! ..but, I want a bluesy, compressed, edge of breakup sound for my Tele, too. Sold on the Wreck philosophy and only Express-like touch sensitivity and dynamics will do (but with less gain, so it will properly clean up when heavily attenuated. I've not played a Rocket (none ava...

Re: Modding an Express clone towards a Liverpool

Hi Matt,

The cathode bias makes a lot of sense - the thanks

In terms of tweaking the voltage to the power amp, are you talking about some sort of VVC or is this more about tweaking component values to suit?

Modding an Express clone towards a Liverpool

Hi All, I've been reading here and here abouts for a while, but this is my first post on what I've found to be a really informative forum. I'm wondering if I can get your views? I have a Fuchs Train 45 (Express clone) which I love - just an awesome amp. It's touch sensitive to the point where I've h...
