Re: Source for 20 gauge solid core wire?

Hi. I get mine here: Its not exactly solid but the strands are tinned very well and so it feels like your working with solid wire I find it much easier to work with this wire than with stranded wire that is not completely tinned or is just individually tinned. https://www.mojotone.com/Wire_1#/ Chee...

Source for 20 gauge solid core wire?

Hi everyone,

Not sure if this is the right section for this question, but does anybody have a source for some good 20 gauge solid core wire with pvc insulation? It's easy enough for me to find the cloth covered solid core but that stuff drives me nuts!

Thanks!

Re: Marshall 2061x build hum

See? Too much fun in my youth! My Bad, Gene Not a problem, I got a smile out of it! I will continue to slowly tidy things up in the amp, though based on the noise level I dont think it is necessary to twist the heaters any tighter. They may be a little loose but apparently they have enough t...

Re: Marshall 2061x build hum

Could be unbalance between the power tubes. Check DC voltages on screens of the power tubes - the voltages should be similar. Also check DC volts on their plates. Same with the cathodes and grids. If that all checks out, it could be the two power tubes you have are badly matched. Push-pull amps rel...

xtian wrote: Sat Jan 26, 2019 6:14 pm Josh, pull out the power tubes also. Do you still hear the hum? If yes, then it's the PT radiating into the OT.
I just pulled the power tubes and no hum that I can hear, even with my ear up against the speaker

Yes, it is jumpered to pin 8 on both v1 and v2, i accidentally ran the jumper over the heater on v1 and under the heater wire on v2, ill have ti fix that for consistency

Re: Marshall 2061x build hum

Thank you both for your suggestions! Chopsticking hasnt revealed anything so far, nothing microphonic. I moved the ot secondaries up the center of the output tubes to move them a way a bit. I redid all my grounds, running them all back to a singular star ground at one of the pt bolts, but no change....

Marshall 2061x build hum

Hi all, I posted about this in the marshall forum, but I thought Id post it here too I recently built a Marshall 2061x using he ceriatone chassis and layout.  The amp sounds really awesome, but its got one thing that bugs me. Upon power up, there is a deep hum (sounds like 60hz to me, but I dont hav...

Re: Marshall 2061x build hum

I tried clipping in some new caps with no dice, and i moved the transformer wires as far as I could but nothing changed. How could i test the grounds? I measured resistances for each ground point to the ground lug of the iec socket, and all are very low, a fraction of an ohm at most

Re: Marshall 2061x build hum

I'd try testing the other caps too by temporarily placing another 47uF parallel to each one to see if it helps the hum. Also, I am seeing the black wire off the transformer running directly between the on off switch wires. And the other wires are all kinda jumbled up over there. It is probably not ...

Great looking build! What kind of resistors and pots have you got in that Solano build (which looks awesome as well!)

Re: Revisiting my very first amp build

Congratulations on the rebuild, It's a fun "little" amp. I'm surprised you don't care for the lead channel. My preference is just the opposite, I like the way the volume jumps when the tone is wide open and the volume just cracked; tone at 10, vol around 2-3. I don't really care so much for the bas...

Re: Revisiting my very first amp build

Yes indeed. Fine work there, Josh. That looks like some experience! Nice work, Josh! Good job, Josh. The rebuild looks much nicer. I'd like to hear the updated tone report when you get that Celestion Blue. Thank you everyone! I will definitely come back with some results and more pics when I have t...
