Re: CPU Change??
Hey David, Tiger Direct sells in Canada, as does Canada Computers... (Tigerdirect.ca) No worry about cross border or crazy high shipping fees. I am in Tdot, I've got both companies with shipping centers as well as brick and mortar stores within walking distance, I would think there has to be an equi...

Matchless LIghtning 50 watter...
So, I've been tinkering all morning after realizing the last circuit i tried was hamstrung by my not reading the multiplier on the slope resistor, and nothing could calm the overt treble I was hearing. So now my YBA-1 is kind of a bastardized el34 powered Matchless Lightning. I like it, the cranked ...

Missing the multiplier
So, you ever have one of those days, you spend a day and half actually, trying to find out why the circuit you are messing with is exeedingly bright, and when you dissasemble it, you realize the 47k slope resistor you installed when you started had a multiplier band, and is actually a 470k... Dammit...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
hiss/hum/noise I like to shield the run from the inputs to the first stage. Doesn't always do a lot, but I feel better about it. Amp isn't excessively "hissy" or anything, just like to use shielded runs early in the preamp. Turns out i had a bit of shielded wire left, and did that run. so I just nee...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
OKay, got a chance to mess around this morning. When i tested all the other values of fizz cap, It had been with the old preamp, since i switched everything to JTM45 spec, everything has changed! So i started messing around with fizz caps, and got all the way to 1000pf... still not "it" so i decided...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
I need to order a few odds and ends, so I may order a 5751 to try in V1. Always wanted to try one, but never had one around to test with. Might order some slightly larger caps to try as a fizz cap post PI. I am using a 47pf there, i tried a 120pf and it was too much roll off, maybe something around ...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
Yeah, this is/was a later version, it had some bad parts, and iffy previous work, so i ended up doing a major rebuild. Circuit wise it's a JTM45, though it would have been closer to a plexi before. Switched all the caps, rebuilt the power supply, dropped the B+ down to 70's Marshall levels (YBA-1's ...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
Yet more Traynor-ey developments! So, I decided to try a 12at7 in the Phase inverter. I know from countless threads that it is a Love or Hate it type of thing. I switched it in and loved it! Even tried a 12ax7 in the v1 position again and loved it even more! My only problem is the brightness... I ha...

Re: Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
I didn't build it as a metal amp because i already have a few of those... I have a hotrodded JCM800 50 watter that sounds HUGE and A Mesa Boogie Stiletto Ace Head. So I am all up on "metal Heads" lol I have a couple of Matchless based amps (Badcat Judah and DC-15 watt clone from Ceriatone) and I sti...

Traynor YBA-1 the saga continues!
Hey Guys, well, while we were away with site troubles I messed around with YBA1 project a little more. The B+ is a little lower and happier, and I essentially made a JTM50 out of it... and i wasn't 100% impressed. so i changed it out to a JTM45 with el34's. and I wasn't 100% impressed, so I switched...

Re: Traynor YGM-3 (early) - Selmer cab
I know from the guys at Traynor that when they first re-issued the YGM3 a few years back, they just called Hammond and asked them to make the same transformers as they originally did... sadly, when they fired it up, it was a tube eating monster! THey had to re-work the transformer specs to bring dow...

Re: Neil Young Tone on Fillmore East Album
I love Neil's electric tone.... ALL OF IT... especially the "Ready to explode" type sounds. It's been something I've searched for, for years. Never REALLY hit it though. The Zvex Wolly Mammoth is okay for that, or the Mastotron... I had a Tone Bender clone that was pretty close. when i played that i...

slow power up on traynor bassmate
Hey guys, Just wondering if anyone can give an idea before i open her up again... I had a traynor bassmate, modded the circuit a very small amount (mild tone shaping, switching to 12ay7 preamp tube) and loved it. Went to test it out the other day, and i noticed when i powered it up, it took a minute...

Re: YBA-1 decisions UPDATE! With an UPDATE on the UPDATE!
Okay, i got my part from NTE and I may have learned a little lesson or 2 (Bout time!) So the 10 watt Zener came in. Installing it brought the "DANGER WILL ROBINSON" Voltage from 464 (Not making life easy on those 450v caps) down to a more reasonable 422. I had already added an extra filter stage, wi...
