tube substitutes: solid state product - any experiences?
AMT, a British - Russian firm produces a 12AX7 tube substitute. More I do not know. Just saw this on the internet. Two questions: 1) anyone any experience? 2) is there a similar product? I am an interested layman compared to a real amp tech. Willing to learn yes. To me, for instance a solid state re...

Re: 12 inch light weight hi SPL guitar speaker'search
the Jupiter neo would be high ranking on the 12'' lite long list. Did an ample web search, listening to Shelby Lynne, then playing her 'Heaven's only days down the road' and then searching and so on. The song went well and I never found Jupiter and Telonics. THANX! any more suggestions welcome. Neo ...

12 inch light weight hi SPL guitar speaker'search
Hi y'all, The Celestion, Eminence (2x) and Jensen Neodymium 12 '' speakers for guitar are known to yours truly. Weber informed me they do not make these (any more.) I bought an Eminence 'Tonkerlite' 8 ohms for an experiment. Has to do with finding out the limits of using a very light 'amp,' like not...

Re: Vox / Korg AC4hw1 hum problem - lay out needed
On the matter of semantics I could not agree less; it is not a problem; to be more specific: I choose to mod this little amp to get rid of the hum; therefore I asked if anyone had schematics. This question has not been answered yet, other than w. very kind words of advice. Suggestions all over the p...

Re: Vox / Korg AC4hw1 hum problem - lay out needed
thank u, couln't agree more:-) this is why I am working on it from scratch. One morte thing: these pics are made after taking apart the amp. Modding just was about a recap and a choke done by a pro. tech.

Thank you, still: I am working on schematics myself now. Then thinking, then tinkering:-)

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
Pictures attached. I took it apart, well labeled and documented. Note: Overview is of non modded amp. You can see a second ground connecting board w. chassis in the rich lower corner. Bad tubes = ruled out. These SG 'Les Paul' Juniors were built in 1961/'62 and a past of '63. Numbering by Gibson is ...

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
Thank u.
Btw: this is not a VOX AC4 like the older model with the same name. It is a new design with an old feature like 'Top Boost.'
Confusing marketing strategy i.m.h.o. as the name reminds of a vintage model.

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
To be fair, the outsourced work was probably done to the spec Vox provided. They build it to spec, good, bad, mediocre. They don't care. They get paid to build to spec. If there's a design flaw it's not on the builder. Totally agree. KORG bought the legendary name of 'VOX' The hand wired amps of th...

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
Hope you will excuse me, for all I can say is the amp tech really did use a 'tropical fish' cap to 'unleash' the bass potential. The bass potential has become awesome. I removed the backpanel (tubes are still protected) so kinda 2/3 is open. Note: I personally do not use a lot of bass +, my guitar h...

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
Of course, only: not so many amp techs do really, really understand SE amps. And if it is a VOX, then it should be o.k. as it is. I.m.h.o: non sense. This hum is a known but neglected / ignored issue. I got in touch with Viva Analog / JC Maillet in Canada. He knows a lot about SE's. We are working o...

Re: Vox AC4hw hum problem (structural) lay out needed
NO, sir, bought it 'used' - while in mint condition. I had it modded by a pro amp tech. Way better than before. Better tubes as well.
The 50 hz hum is only irritating when recording and practising, as it is not getting louder when cranked up. May users will not bother. I do.

Re: Vox / Korg AC4hw1 hum problem - lay out needed
'Been there' so to speak: Already did this. They respond like a robot: 'get in touch with your local distributor.' Well I did…more than once I am not going to wait any longer, as you probably understand. I called Vox. The guy at Tech Support couldn't help me. Company Policy* I did get through to him...

Re: Vox / Korg AC4hw1 hum problem - lay out needed
Since I am not a tech, even I understand this. Q. remains: why didn't Korg / Vox do this in the first place? Why not, if you call it your Flag Ship series... Yes I am going to take it to a 'whatever it takes' extreme. I am not going to buid another amp though:-) And not obsessed. Just see ho far I c...
