Re: Liverpool PI

I started with the 100k/100k/100pf and will listen before I go to the 100k/82k/47pf so I have a reference for both. I'll spend about a week of listening and tuning with different NOS preamp tubes and other tricks to get the amp dialed in. The Liverpool is definitely a harder amp to build in the out...

Re: Lindley Tone-Homing In on #8

The aluminum is more open sounding, clearer, more natural high end, and somewhat transformer dependent, capable of a more musical treble extension kind of thing. They ping, or if you're into the folksy vocal harmony lingo, they 'keen'. The steel chassis hits a ceiling at some point in the high end,...

Re: Lindley Tone-Homing In on #8

Great link Andy, Looks like Ry Cooder is palying a 5x10" Fender Bassman !! - he always had adventurous and non-conformal gear with great tone. Anyway, I read somewhere that the Carlos Rios Dumble has Serial no #93 Gil Ayan posted a picture of Ry Cooders Dumble as well, stating that is Ry Cooders am...

Re: Lindley Tone-Homing In on #8

Havn't seen a picture of the blue light one but yes, as far as I know both are in snakeskin tolex . Both amps are pictured in the FJ. Yes, both are snake-skin Tolex with different texture. The blue light cover is gone. I apologize guys, I could swear that Ben told me that the amp that we were playi...

Re: Lindley Tone-Homing In on #8

Likes the idea of $200K vs a snakeskin box! Mr. Dave is playing acoustic shows featuring the oud and saz these days- BTW Ben Harper bought one of them. Ben has the Lindley ODS that was covered in orangeish-brown-velvety-suede. He told me it was the one that was used on "Running On Empty", he said t...

Re: Happy New Year - Heyboer vs. Pacific voltages

The VVR seems to be accepted because: -Dana designed it, and he's one of our most knowledgable amp here at TAG with a huge number of Wreck builds under his belt. -It does not cause significant sonic issues because it controls the entire amp... I respectfully disagree. Tubes have a limit to their op...

Re: Happy New Year - Heyboer vs. Pacific voltages

I really don't understand any of this , nor why it is an issue ? I came into this whole thing not wanting to build a replica , but yet a nice sounding amp for myself. So the power supply board was right up my alley . I actually have one of his Rockster kits in transit. Now that people are catching ...

Re: Happy New Year - Heyboer vs. Pacific voltages

But RJ is not perfect either, his Rockets are wrong--the power supplies are wrong... Are you referring to the PT or something else? I know he doesn't do the Stack o' Caps but is his PS "wrong" electronically or in the layout? Thanks. I was referencing the layout, sorry if I was "confusing"--- :P Bu...

Re: Happy New Year - Heyboer vs. Pacific voltages

ckpop, quite the reverse. I am reacting to 20-30 pm's I get a day from people looking to build their first TW style amp saying that which info is correct. There is nothing wrong with discussion of parts and layouts but, some people represent their research as something it isn't. Which side of the f...

The front end on the Express & the Liverpool are pretty much the same. The output section is what differentiates them. The Rocket is, supposedly, KF's take on a tweaked, single-channel AC30.

Re: Liverpool & Vox

The Liverpool is pretty close to the Express IMO. My Express has a bit more ass than my Liverpool but they're both killer. Lots of gain!
