Re: Primary switch soft start DPST wiring

I appreciate the comments on this one. I probably could have learned a few Van Halen solos in the amount of time I've spent reading about these debates. Merlin's book really covered good ground on this. I already have the switch and the resistors. I don't want to buy more stuff after doing several o...

Re: Primary switch soft start DPST wiring

Ah! I see how you jumpered that resistor. Thank You. I get dyslexic with switches.

Primary switch soft start DPST wiring

I have a Carling DPST and I'd like to try Merlin Blencowes Primary soft start (instead of the usual secondary stand by)
I was curious if that's possible with this switch. I feel like if I jumper the mains wiring, the resistor will always be in series.

Re: McIntyre Bluesbreaker

The new Marshalls have a similar platform with the "tilt" control. But I haven't noticed much of a difference while blending either.

Re: McIntyre Bluesbreaker

I appreciate that input!
I was considering using a PPI master volume as everyone has mentioned how loud it is.
I was indeed curious about the plate resistor values.

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

I would also be getting rid of half of the valves that are in this amp, leaving leas draw on the heater current

Re: McIntyre Bluesbreaker

I appreciate the replies.
I am basically doing a bassman utilizing the extra half triode for a gain stage, but was curious about implementing the parallel input blend as well.

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

Yeah. .4 less.
Which is 2x6550 versus 4 6l6 so I don't quite understand the redundant reply in the first place. Thank You

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

Correct, and I will most likely do a 2x6l6 super reverb style output with 40 or so volts in reduction.
But the way I read your post was to utilize 2x6550s and keep an extra 2 6l6s in for a heater load.
That's how I interpreted your written suggestion.

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

Your going to have a lot of extra voltage raising heater current on your hands with only the load of two 6550s , I would leave two of the 6L6s in just wired up for a heater load. Fundamental question here, but doesn't a power supply determine the current available? Basically, a load only pull what ...

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

That was my plan. To use a Mosfet Maida regulator. But considering the layout of the chassis as is, I was just curious. Of course it came with 4 RCA black plates...and it's so tempting to use them in a confident amp. Or sell them. I do use one in a single ended two stroke and it has its own sound fo...

Re: 6V6 voltage regulator

Why does one scheme have the 6v6 anode to the O.T. while the other is what looks like biased to ground?

6V6 voltage regulator

There is another thread elsewhere on the Maas-Rowe Carillon 500 and 500A amplifier for church bell chimes. However this thread and any other on the net usually end with the "...and a 6V6 voltage regulator on the screens?" So I was curious if anyone here could dissect this. Both 500 models (4x6l6 and...

McIntyre Bluesbreaker

I was just curious if anyone here can provide a few soundsamples of this amplifier. I've seen that a few people here have built it (and I know there are multiple variations) But Id really love to hear the preamp blend mod. And any insight into building this preamp blend into a plate follower Tonesta...
