Re: bias: cathode current vs plate current

Thank you so very much Martin Manning So if I go back to the first post and redo the "right" formula, it goes like this : Exemple: With a plate voltage of 400Volts (411Volts unloaded) - hot biasing with plate current : (25W/400) X .7 (70%) = 43.7mA ==> maximum bias (70%) (reading on a plate current ...

Re: bias: cathode current vs plate current

Following Martin's 15% screen current, (and for a maximum of 70% of power dissipation) 425V and 25W+3.75 = 28,75 .7 X 28.75W= 20.1 Watts now for the bias: 20.1/425= 47.3mA power wattage would be: .0473 X 425 = 20.1 Watt s If you now take the Bias King maximum formula (63.6% maximum), you get a close...

Re: bias: cathode current vs plate current

It works for me to see it,
but after saving it (png pix), we get this black spreadsheet when you open it.

Re: bias: cathode current vs plate current

Anyone here owns a Bias King or Bias King Pro ? (cathode current) discontinued since two years ! Check out the "formula" on the following picture : https://images.reverb.com/image/upload/s--gHGS4let--/a_180/a_exif,c_limit,e_unsharp_mask:80,f_auto,fl_progressive,g_south,h_1600,q_80,w_1600/v1499214396...

Re: bias: cathode current vs plate current

Ain't that low Wattage dissipation ?
400V X 34,5mA (cathode bias) = 13,8Watts
400V X 30,0mA (plate current bias) = 12 Watts

You'd get a clean tone for sure though !

"Tonaly" speaking, I will try to get in the 17Watts zone; a little less maybe, like biasing at 40mA "plate current"

bias: cathode current vs plate current

from the Marshall forum Cathode current will always read higher than actual plate current because again cathode current includes BOTH the screen grid current AS WELL AS actual plate current ! So when for bias calcul, an EL34 tube (25Watts) we have to add 8Watts of screen dissipation for a total of 3...

Re: 2 Express built Project

I think that you can "hit the note" (à la Duane) with the KornersTone Devil's Advocate, and the rythmn has the clarity and chimes that I love. Definitly my main amp starting now ! http://dicitte.com/images/KornersTone_DevilsAdvocate.mp3 in wav file : http://dicitte.com/images/KornersTone_D...
