Re: 5G9 Tremolux - low end of the speed pot
Ha great point. The original pot is marked 2M LIN. Desoldered the 100k from wiper and wire from the right terminal. At full CCW (lowest speed) I'm at 1.595M and at 3 on the speed dial I'm at 1.525M. That'd do it. Taper kicks in at around 4 with a drop to 1.1M. I've replaced it with a 3MRA pot and 15...

Re: 5G9 Tremolux - low end of the speed pot
Yep! Power and cathodes. Basically just the pots, domino cap, resistors (all checked in spec, replaced with carbon comp NOS AB's where not), jacks, transformers and wiring are all original. Caps all redone. All but two board caps were leaky so I just saved them and redid them all with nice CDE WMF's...

5G9 Tremolux - low end of the speed pot
I have a nice 5G9 from early 1960. Sounds great with leaky astrons replaced, resistor values checked, all original pots and otherwise. The tremolo speed pot sounds the same from 1-4 on the dial (recall these go to 12 so up until around 10 o'clock). From there it'll speed up and changes are apparent....

Re: Retweed identification
OK so now that I'm confident this is not the original tweed I want to get it retweeded properly.
Anyone have recommendations for who does exceptional retweed work?

JTM45 RS power transformer cover
Does anyone make or have crafted their own repro RS jumper selector laydown transformer cover for an early JTM45?
Or have an original to sell?

Re: Retweed identification
Yeah some joker put the handle on crooked also, likely to "fix" a stripped original screw hole. Cool

Re: Retweed identification
It does look different under the knob and handle but I'm still relatively confident this is not original Fender tweed. Finish is wrong (too matte) and I know the feet, back panel screws... etc are replacements. The condition on the inside of the redwood is not commensurate with the exterior finish i...

Retweed identification
Is there a bulletproof way to tell if an original tweed amp has been retweeded? Obviously much is subjective and I've seen plenty of original examples live and of course pics but determining original vs retweed can be really tough in my anecdotal opinion when done excellently. Are there tell-tale si...

Harry Joyce - ever work for Marshall?
Just saw a 1969 50 watt tremolo head come up for sale and noticed that on the inspection tag it says the circuit board was signed off by Joyce H Did Harry ever do contract work for Marshall or is this a Marshall worker named Joyce whose last name started with H.? https://images.reverb.com/image/uplo...

Re: AC30 preamp into JTM45 power amp / Rockster gain
@OP check out the Russian 6P14P-K or -EV I've found these to have excellent overdrive characteristics and be a touch darker than a typical EL84 which matches nicely with Vox circuits

@Roe for sure
The AC10 and AC50 get overlooked for the AC30 but are both epic amplifiers

The absolute worst. Nice move with the lighter - amazing!
I changed the flooring in my workspace to dark flat FLOR tiles so I could find stuff that falls and avoid the sproingy ricochet. Now it just bounces off my leg and into oblivion
