Re: Clean preamp circuit with bright input stage?

The Vox Top Boost circuit has a fully bypassed cathode resistor on the input stage.
I would need a clean channel with a 470n bypass cap instead of 22u.

Re: Clean preamp circuit with bright input stage?

Thanks for the suggestion. The Hiwatt could be a an interestig circuit. GT Soul-O clean channel is another candidate but has the tone stack after the first stage and I can imagine it would be too bright for me. I have seen simulations of the Hiwatt EQ but never used it before. I usually tend to pref...

Clean preamp circuit with bright input stage?

Hi guys, I'm currently planning to replace the circuit of my 3 channel 19" preamp with a new circuit. The Crunch and Lead channels are already defined and share a 150k / 1k5, 470n input stage together with the clean channel. I wanted to ask you guys if someone has good experience with a 2 stage clea...

Re: Bridged T Mid Control

Lately I was playing with the Tone Stack Calculator to see how I can take use of a bridged T mid control in a simple James stack. I came up with this arrangement which is basically a sum up of the controls of the first post's schematic. As already mentioned before, it's quite lossy so I highly recom...

Re: Bridged T Mid Control

The control would have a deep mid cut while the dual pot shifts the notch from left to right. Theoretically cool but very lossy in practice I would guess. Probably more useful in clean amps as in high gainers.

Re: Mixing Channels with Virtual Earth?

I once tried an anode mixer and it didn't worked for me. I married a two stage with a four stage channel in front of a shared tone stack but I had squealing problems.
Anyway, an anode mixer isn't an option here and not of my interest.

Re: Mixing Channels with Virtual Earth?

An anode mixer would cause phase issues and the low output impedance woulf be gone.

I‘m more after a cathode follower with double function..

Mixing Channels with Virtual Earth?

Thinking about different ways to blend clean and dirty channels I'm wondering if a virtual earth summing triode is an good option? The gain stage with local feedback could serve as a cathode follower /FX Loop send. Problem could be the tone stack of the dirty channel but it also could pad the signal...

Re: Hot Rodded 5D3?

Yesterday I tried the paraphase inverter and I went back to the LTPI. First I wired up the 3rd stage with 10k on the cathode but it had not enough gain to compete with the LTPI. Then I tried different values, bypassed and unbypassed while 1k5 unbypassed gave the best result but distortion seemed to ...

Re: Global Negative Feedback on AC30?

Just found this schematic of a 36W TMB.
The global feedback seems to be injected in the "3rd input" of the LTPI.
What if the other side of the PI got another channel instead of the 100n cap to ground?
I guess phase issues would occur?

Right, the PSU delivers a maximum of 220V - is it worth trying?

Sufficient B+ for Dumble kind of preamp?

Hi guys, having a lot of amps standing around and taking my place to live, I would like to build a stompbox preamp with two 12AX7. There's an available voltage pump kit that supplies a maximum of 15mA @ 220V DC out of 4 VA @ 12V DC input. I don't expect this preamp to be a close reproduction of the ...

Re: Hot Rodded 5D3?

Because of phase inversion, mixing the channels isn't a good idea. I should rather think about switching between them.

Hot Rodded 5D3?

Hi there, I'm currently having troubles with one of my amps which I converted from an 65amps clone with 6V6 PA into a dual channel amp (tweed channel and Vox EF86 channel mixed at LTPI). Blocking distortion occurs within the tweed channel and I guess it's due to the sloppy wiring. Anyway I think abo...
