Re: Rocket OT Suggestion/Advice

And now again -- If memory serves and my email search is correct I have a spare Heyboer-wound "Rocket spec" HTS-8093-1. This would have been purchased in 2014 from Bob at R.J. Guitars back when he was regularly doing batch runs. I'll need to unpack some boxes to confirm so please PM if this is help...

Re: Want to build an Express

Sorry to be slow to answer. I've been consumed with a major construction project going here and haven't been online for a while. Finally have passed some of the work on to a contractor and getting caught up on emails now. Looking forward to getting a build or two done for myself... hopefully not to ...

Re: Best Currently Available Express OT in 2022?

Holy cr@p! 10A on the filaments?! I had no idea... One of my personal favorite pieces of Wreck History... Somewhere in the archives, my own speculation about this has been published previously. It was based on a discussion with Patrick from Mercury Magnetics (A great guy no longer with us  ) P...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build

You are making progress... as an amp becomes our own they always tend to drift toward the sound we want. I looked into mine. First I played through it and all the controls worked just the way you might expect them to based on their labeling. Bass = linear function with a good range Treble = linear f...

Re: Pedal Mule 30 - Prototype build

I'll fire mine up and see if I have those same things happen... plus look at my notes and see if there are any changes that are not documented. Stay tuned

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

I don't have a copy of that document that they mention - I've seen a few but nothing that clearly connects the Pacific part numbers and Ken Fishers work. Rob Hinson can probably shed more light than any of us but IIRC the Wreck trannies that were produced over at Heyboer were reverse engineered from...

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

got the following response from Pacific: We were originally told by Ken Fischer to make a 6.6K ohm transformer for his amps. After tweaking the transformer to match what he wanted on his amp, we didn't measure the new impedance. Now that we are getting into the audio industry, we are doing our best...

Re: Pete Thorn Trainwreck Video

Great Sounding Amp, Great Sounding guitars, Great sounding guitar player... almost perfect except you get to hear a little bit of hum when he is telling the story of everything. That little touch of hum gives me the feeling the recording is authentic and not a studio creation. Has me thinking I'll f...

Re: New 14 watt Express build

... The 6P3S tubes are made for this amp. For those scouring the archives for the subtle mention of a real gold nugget, this might be it for Express players around the planet. I've run them in at the full Wreck voltage but never built a lower voltage/wattage amp around them (yet). They are apparent...

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

I found an old link that demonstrates an Edcor tranny set in a TW Rocket clone amp.... which brings me to say that how good something sounds depends on what you like and and who's playing the guitar. I had forgotten about this build and clip but was happy to stumble over it again. This clip sounds l...

Re: New 14 watt Express build

Paul, Nice job on this. I've been away from this stuff for a while but had some time lately to look in on things and see that it has all slowed down a bit. Your idea of smaller power Wrecks is something I really enjoy. Looks like you hit it pretty nicely here. I had some very good luck with the soun...

Re: Rate the Express output transformers.

I finally got things rolling with the folks at Pacific transformer again. They have agreed to sell me a dozen each of the original spec Wreck transformers... just the same as the past few years. I'll sell some and tinker with some and it sounds like they are agreeable to sell me more if I want them....

Re: express transformer question

I didn't see the actual voltages posted... did I miss them? Looking at the replacement transformers for an AC-30, I see a 300-0-300 secondary on the Hammond unit… The 290CZ you attached is listed as a AC15 replacement, rather than AC30 :D The AC30 4xEL84 cathode current is 200mA at idle, so AC curr...

Re: express transformer question

I didn't see the actual voltages posted... did I miss them? Looking at the replacement transformers for an AC-30, I see a 300-0-300 secondary on the Hammond unit. My experience with Hammond has been that they always run a bit high on the voltages so if anything I'd expect this tranny to be too hot f...
