any weaknesses of the elevated / regulated heater?
though i am not familiar with circuits, i know the elevated / regulated heater is often used for reducing 12A_7 noise. but also i know some of purists do not like the idea of the elevated / regulated heater , such as Soldano, Komet, Morgan.... just curious... are there any weaknesses of the elevated...

why no resonance knob in clean amps?
i just wonder why there is no resonance knob in clean amps? or why no nfb control (for all the frequency range to adjust the overall NFB level for the presence and the resonance knob) in clean amps? i guess there is the need for the low end thumb in high gain amps which have the resonance or nfb con...

Re: New SLO 100 clone
Idnotbe, as described in your quoted text, it's a variable negative feedback control. Look EG the knucklehead: http://www.freeinfosociety.com/electronics/schematics/audio/riveraknucklehead.pdf though the schematic is too complected for me, it seems to adjust overall nfb level. "Response" knob in Fr...

Re: New SLO 100 clone
What I consider really useful addons to a stock SLO power amp are: - the depth control (standard 4n7//1MOhm isn't bad); - the "focus" control, to call it à la Rivera (a 250k log pot in series with the 39kOhm feedback; - change the 25k lin presence pot with a 10k lin one. That makes the standard slo...

Re: detuned cabinets
dumb question...
why is always the woofer (port) positioned below the mid freq speaker? and why tweeter above the mid?
in other words, i wonder why there is the "detuned" hole below the speaker in the below cab?

Re: detuned cabinets
Are there any phase cancellation issue?
Because it allows the phase cancellation from the front hole which is normally blocked by the closed baffle.

cabinet / enclosure design software
Eminence sells it and there are many free software.
did anyone tried it?
and is it worth for a guitar cabinet design?
i am interested in the detuned cab from KoC.
wonder it can help to design that kind of cab.

understanding the basic SSS circuit concept
i am very new to the circuit world and seeing M Hartman's SSS schematics. though i'm not sure that i am reading the circuit correctly, i have too much curiosity. 1. i find 2 triodes where the reverb signal and the main signal are mixed. (the yellow circil in the below schematics) comparing to Fender...

Re: SSS "Unforgiving" vs JM100 "sweetness"
here is a similar / related question. i owned / loved TR Crystal (essentially JM Sig) . according to youtube clips, TR Crystal is fatter / thicker than AN's Wonderland. when i played Crystal, i enjoyed the full blasted mid & bass with mid boost switch on & deep switch on. with the setting, it seemed...

Re: solderless terminal blocks on DIN rail
I use these all the time at my job. I don't consider them very useful in amp building. For the size of an amp chassis they would take up a lot of space. They work great if you need a lot of wires coming to a single buss, not very practical for a point to point amp. when you making a prototype amp (...

solderless terminal blocks on DIN rail
i saw the following products and they look cool.
i wonder if it is possible to substitute the traditional circuit / soldering job in amp world into them.
they provide the firm connection (from vibration, corrosion...) .
and have some modules like relay and so on.

channel switching in a 3 or more channel amp
after searching a little bit, i noticed many 3 channel amps use 2 relays for the channel switching. 1st relay : CH1 (clean) <-> CH2/3 (dirty channels) 2nd relay : CH2 <-> CH3, when the 1st relay selects CH2/3 but it is somewhat weird, because the player will regard the 3 channels as triple parallel....

Re: switch popping noise correction?
maybe the other subject... but....
i thought "relay" is the application in this situation.
for ex, channel switching, etc...
what's the difference between resistance method above and relay for taming the popping noise ?
